Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
on Social Media Instagram: @coachgmcd Twitter: @andreagrovemcd Andrea Grove-McDonough joined the University of Toledo as the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field in July 2019 and enters her seventh season in 2025-26. As the director of the program, Grove-McDonough serves the head coach of the women’s and men’s cross country teams, and the women’s track & field team. Grove-McDonough has turned the cross country and track & field programs around into fierce competitors in the Mid-American Conference and recognition at the national level. Cross Country McDonough has led the Toledo cross country teams to tremendous success, including five-consecutive Mid-American Conference Women’s Cross Country titles (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and Coach of the Year honors. In 2025, UT won its fifth-consecutive MAC Championship, totaling the program's 11th overall title. The win secured Toledo as the winningest women's cross country program in MAC history. Grove-McDonough saw each runner at the conference championship place within the top-35 runners, led by junior Karina James who won the individual title. James, Melody Jebiwot, Dorcas Jeptoo Kiptanui and Lianna Surtz all brought home First Team All-MAC accolades. The team carried the momentum to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship in Evansville, Ind. as they placed third overall. Asst. Strength & Conditioning Coach
Ben Wielgopolski was named the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Toledo in August of 2023. Wielgopolski previously served as a strength and conditioning intern with Toledo football in 2023. Prior to that, he was a strength and conditioning graduate assistant in 2023 and a strength and conditioning intern from 2020-22 at Ohio University. Wielgopolski was also the recipient of the 2025 Champion Maker of the Year Award at the Toledo Athletics end of year banquet. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Wielgopolski graduated from Ohio University with his bachelors in sciences of journalism in 2022 before getting his masters in recreation and sports science in 2023.

Associate Athletic Director of Olympic Sports Operations
Carrie Schonter-Cherry has served as the director of operations-Olympic sports and business administrator at The University of Toledo since 2015. Prior to her appointment in the Athletic Department, Schonter-Cherry served in a variety of finance positions at UToledo from 2005-11. She left Toledo to become a purchasing card coordinator at the University of Michigan from 2011-12, and then moved on Owens Community College to serve as the Upward Bound specialist from 2012-15 before returning to the Glass City to work for the Rockets. A native of Erie, Mich., Schonter-Cherry graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1998 with a bachelor of science in telecommunications and film. She earned her masters in education from The University of Toledo in 2008. Schonter-Cherry and her husband Roy are proud owners of two Corgis named Sonny and Reacher.

Assistant Track & Field Coach
Devin Quinn was named the assistant track & field coach at the University of Toledo in October of 2024. Quinn was a student-athlete on the track and field team at the University of Illinois where he was a six-time All-American, five in outdoor competition and one in indoor competition. Quinn is the fastest man in Big Ten history, clocking a time of 10.01 in the 100m dash at the 2019 NCAA Semifinal. He also holds the Illinois school record in both the indoor and outdoor 100m and 200m. Quinn previously served as an assistant track & field coach at Clarke University where he helped achieve the best men’s and women’s team performances in program history as well as assisted in breaking 12 school records. He also coached high school track and field, earning a third-place finish in the 2023 Ohio indoor state meet and helping student-athletes break multiple school records in the 60m, 200m, 400m and pole vault. A native of Punta Gorda, Fla., Quinn graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in recreation, sport and tourism.

SAAS Athletic Coordinator
Mariah Copeland joined the University of Toledo Student-Athlete Support Services staff in August 2023 as an Assistant Academic Coordinator. She was promoted to Learning Specialist in August of 2024. Copeland currently oversees the women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, women's track & field, and women's swimming & diving programs. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Copeland is a University of Toledo graduate, having earned her bachelor's degree in business marketing in 2021 and her master's degree in business administration (MBA) in 2022. Copeland's connection to the University goes beyond academics. She was a member of the Women's Basketball team from 2017 to 2022. During her time at Toledo, she also gained experience as an intern with the UToledo athletics marketing department and served as a Mid-American Conference Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion intern.
