Head Coach
Asiya Mahmud enters her third season with Delaware Rowing in 2025-26 as the team transitions into its first season in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). In her second season with the Fightin' Blue Hens, Mahmud led Delaware to a third-place finish at the CAA Championships, where the team accumulated a program record four all-conference honorees. The squad picked up a victory at the Ford Lake Cup, hosted by Eastern Michigan University. In her first season with Delaware, the Blue Hens earned two CAA Boat of the Week honors during the spring season in April. UD also had two All-Conference honorees at the CAA Championhips, and a program record 13 CRCA Scholar-Athlete selections. A seasoned veteran and well-respected coach in the national rowing community, Asiya Mahmud has been hired as the University of Delaware Head Rowing Coach, Director of Athletics, Campus Recreation, and Community Chrissi Rawak announced on August 2, 2023. “I’m incredibly excited to welcome Asiya to the Blue Hen family,” Rawak said. “She brings tremendous experience as both a coach and student-athlete in the CAA. Her expansive knowledge and respect on the national level makes her a tremendous fit to lead our rowing program to the next level.” Mahmud joins the Blue Hens after eight years at her alma mater and CAA rival, Drexel University. Chris Stewart joined the University of Delaware athletic department in January 2017 as the associate AD for strength and conditioning and the head strength and conditioning coach for the football program. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Stewart arrived in Newark after spending eight years as head strength & conditioning coach at the University of Richmond. Before moving to Richmond in 2009, Stewart had an 11-year stint at the University of Tennessee in 1998-2008, including his last five as associate strength and conditioning coach. At UT, he served as a graduate assistant, assistant, and associate head strength coach during his tenure and worked with numerous National Football League players and Olympians while in Knoxville. Stewart is an approved mentor for the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and the former director of the UT Strength and Conditioning Clinic, one of the nation’s largest and longest-running strength clinics involving 800 coaches and athletes. Stewart assisted with the UT football program while serving as the primary strength coach for the Vols’ nationally acclaimed track & field team. He worked year-round with former Vols in the professional and Olympic ranks. Stewart earned a sports management/exercise science degree from Western Carolina in 1998 and completed his master’s from Tennessee in 2001.
