Ted Nance Communications Assistant (SOC, TEN)
BJ Carden joined the University of Houston Athletics Communications Department as the Ted Nance Communications Assistant in Aug. 2023. Carden serves as the primary contact for the Houston Women's Soccer and Women's Tennis team and is the secondary contact for Houston Men's Basketball. Before Houston, Carden worked as a Communications Assistant at Texas A&M where he was the primary contact for the Equestrian team on their runner-up finish in the SEC Championship and a fifth-place finish at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships. Carden interned with the operations team at the 2023 Cotton Bowl that saw current Houston Football Head Coach Willie Fritz lead his Tulane team to a victory over Southern California. Prior to entering athletic communications, Carden was a student manager for Hall of Fame Head Coach Gary Blair and the Texas A&M Women's Basketball team from Aug. 2019 to Aug. 2022. During his three seasons, Carden assisted with the operations of the 2021 SEC Regular Season Champions. Carden earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M in Agricultural Communications and Journalism in May 2021 before earning his master's degree in Sport Management in May 2023. Originally from Dayton, Texas, Carden has a sister, Amanda, who was a three-year letterwinner for the Houston Softball team from 2022-2024.

Player Development Coordinator
Sturgeon joins the Cougar staff as the Player Development Coordinator after two seasons as an assistant coach at HCU where the team made a run to the Southland Conference Tournament Semifinals. In his first season with the Cougars, Sturgeon helped the program to its first winning season since 2021 with a 7-4-7 record. Houston recorded its first undefeated non-conference finish in program history including a 4-1 route of rv Texas, marking the first victory against the Longhorns since 2000. Houston allowed just one goal during non-conference action and 14 on the season marking the lowest total ever allowed in non-conference action and the lowest season total since 2010. The Cougars opened Big 12 Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Cincinnati, marking the most goals scored in a single Big 12 match in program history as well as the first time opening conference play victorious. Sturgeon helped Houston to a 2-4-5 Big 12 record — Houston's best since joining the league — while tallying its most conference points in league play (11). The Cougars earned three Big 12 weekly awards as Lexi Gonzalez earned the program's first award as Goalkeeper of the week. Samira Minor earned the Big 12's Offensive Player and Freshman of the week after she recorded a brace against Cincinnati, marking the first time since 2021 a Big 12 soccer player had won multiple awards in the same week since 2021. Associate Director of Sports Medicine (SOC/TEN)
Lizzy Rodgers joined the University of Houston Athletics Department as associate director for sports medicine in July 2024. In her current role, Rogers works with the Houston Soccer and Tennis teams. She oversees the medical coverage, care and rehabilitation of all student-athletes for both teams. Rodgers came to Houston after serving an athletic training fellowship with the Men's and Women's Tennis programs at Alabama during the 2023-24 season. Prior to her time at Alabama, Rodgers served as an athletic training intern at Liberty, where she worked with the Swimming and Diving, Football, Volleyball, Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Tennis and Field Hockey teams from 2021 to 2023. A native of Allen, Texas, she received her bachelor's degree in athletics training with a minor in psychology from Alabama in May 2021. Rodgers is a licensed athletics trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Athletic Training Student Association.

Director of Academic Services
Lori Selzer joined the University of Houston in November 1999 as a teaching assistant before moving into the UH Athletics Department in 1997 as an athletic tutor. Selzer has been an academic advisor in the athletic department since 2004. As the Director for Academic Services, Selzer is the academic advisor for three athletic teams advising student-athletes in course selection, choice of major and career selection. Selzer helps Houston student-athletes maintain degree plans and progress towards degree completion for each of her student-athletes and authenticate student-athlete academic eligibility to perform in their chosen sport. Prior to her time in the Athletics Alumni Center, Selzer served as an adjunct professor, coordinator of student services at the Sugar Land campus, as an athletics tutor and as a teaching assistant. Selzer earned her Master of Education with an emphasis in Counseling and Guidance in 2001 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies in 1997. Currently, Selzer teaches Hlt 1353: Introduction to Health, for the College of Education at UH. Selzer has been a current member of the University of Houston Undergraduate Committee since 2012. As an academic and an author, Selzer co-authored Weaving Family Tapestries, a college-level textbook from 2002-10 authoring The Basic Tenets of Polyamory, an article withing the textbook.
