Alex Johnson joined the University of Houston Athletics Department as associate director for sports medicine in January 2023. In his current role, Johnson works with the Houston Men's and Women's Cross Country and Men's and Women's Track and Field teams. He assesses the needs of individual student-athletes and develops training plans to promote health athletic abilities. A native of Chicago, Johnson received his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Houston in 2019, graduating cum laude. He earned his master's degree in athletic training in 2023 from Houston. Johnson is a licensed athletics trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, UH Athletics Training Student Society, and Greater Houston Athletics Trainers Association. He lives in Houston.

Angel Shamblin-Price first joined the Department in 2009 as a teaching assistant and was elevated to her current position as assistant athletics director for academic services in November 2021. In her current role, she works primarily with the Houston Men's Basketball, Men's Track and Field and Volleyball programs. She coordinates academic counseling and works with the student-athletes and staffs on daily academic concerns, such as tutoring, mentoring and monitoring academic progress. In addition to her Athletics duties, Shamblin-Price serves as an adjunct professor in health for the College of Education at the University. As a four-year letterwinner with Houston Softball, she was a three-time Conference USA Pitcher of the Year honoree and finished her senior season in 2008 as an NFCA All-America Second-Team member. In 2008, the righthander led the Cougars to 54 wins, the Conference USA regular-season and tournament championships, the NCAA Houston Regional title and a berth in the NCAA Houston Super Regional championship game. The Davie, Fla., native continues to hold the school's single-season and career records in ERA, wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, shutouts and complete games. Following her collegiate playing days, she competed professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch League and overseas. Kristian Austin on Twitter Kristian Austin joined the Houston Track and Field staff as the Director of Operations in December 2017. The 2026 season is her ninth with the program. Austin is responsible for managing day-to-day operations for the program, as well as organizing and managing team travel. Austin received her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Management from LSU in 2016. While earning her degree, Austin worked closely as a Graduate Administrative Assistant for LSU’s Track and Field program. Some of her tasks involved preparing for home meets and special events and maintaining a systematic correspondence with prospective student-athletes. In 2014, Austin graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University, where she majored in Kinesiology with a minor in Business. Austin competed on the Sam Houston Track and Field team from 2010-2014. A four year letterwinner, she helped the team capture the Outdoor Southland Conference Championship and sweep the Indoor and Outdoor Championships, the first time since 2008. During her time at Sam Houston, Austin also took part on the Student Athlete Alliance Committee (SAAC). She earned the honors of being on the President’s List, Dean’s List, Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, Who’s Who Among Students, and being in the Golden Key International Honor Society.
