Director of Track & Field/Cross Country

Four-time Olympian and former NCAA 400-meter champion Aliann Pompey was announced as the new director of the St. John’s track and field program in August of 2021 after seven seasons as an assistant coach under Jim Hurt. Under Pompey’s leadership, the Johnnies have earned many BIG EAST Championships, including High Point Performer honors for Tatyana McKenzie in both the 2023 Indoor and Outdoor BIG EAST Championships, Jamora Alves in the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and Leah Anderson in the 2022 & 2021 Indoor and Outdoor BIG EAST Championship. Pompey has seen Johnnies qualify for the NCAA Championships in each of her three seasons at the helm of the program. She has also had sustained success in the Indoor and Outdoor BIG EAST Championships, with a member of her squads taking home a high point performer and most outstanding track performer at each meet. During the 2023-24 campaign, Pompey saw two athletes, Chinenye Onourah and Nora Haugen qualify for the NCAA East Regional. Haugen advanced onto the NCAA Track & Field Championships where she placed 19th in the 800-meter run. Additionally, Haugen shattered a number of school records in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter and the sprint medley relay. Coach Lexia Robinson enters her fifth season on the staff of Aliann Pompey, serving as the throws coach. Robinson is no stranger to coaching collegiate throwing events in the Tri-State Area. Before arriving in Queens, she spent the nearly six years as a throws coach at Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart and Manhattan College. Last season, Robinson her contingent of throwers to BIG EAST individual titles, All-BIG EAST honors and Jamora Alves to All-American Honorable Mention status. Alves continued the streak of St. John’s appearing at an NCAA Championship meet for the 32nd year in a row. In addition, Robinson guided Alves to the Guyana national record in the discus throw at the 129th Penn Relays in April of 2025. The toss of 54.33m (178 ft 3 in), sits second all-time in St. John’s track and field history. During her time at Sacred Heart, Robinson guided three different throwers, both male and female, to athlete of the year honors in the Northeast Conference. Robinson also coached seven conference champions in the NEC during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Robinson is not just an accomplished coach, but also an accomplished track and field athlete in her own right. Robinson competed for two seasons at Western Kentucky where she still holds several top-five marks in the school's record book for multiple throwing events.
