Head Coach
Joe Tartamella was introduced as the ninth head coach in the history of the St. Johnís womenís basketball program on April 27, 2012 and is entering his 14th season at the helm in 2025-26. In his 13 completed years at the helm of the Red Storm, Tartamella has continued the tradition of success that he helped mold over the last 20-plus years, boasting an overall record of 239-173 (.581) as a head coach. The winningest coach in program history has led the Johnnies to four NCAA Tournament bids, eight postseason appearances, nine top-five finishes in the conference and a 2016 BIG EAST Tournament Championship In 2024-25, Tartamella led the Red Storm to its third straight winning season and orchestrated an above .900 winning percentage for the second time in three years in non-conference play. The Johnnies went 10-1 in out-of-league competition. He mentored a BIG EAST Major Award winner in the conferenceís defensive player of the year Lashae Dwyer. After a slow start to the 2023-24 campaign, Tartamella righted the ship and led an impressive turnaround. St. John;s is the only Power 6 conference program in the country to start 2-5 and finish top-3 in its respective conference. The Red Storm went 11-7 in league play and earned the third-seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Strength & Conditioning Coach
Alfred Caronia was named the strength and conditioning coach for the women's basketball program in the summer of 2012, marking his second term at St. John's. His first term was from 1995-1998 where he organized and directed the first strength and conditioning program at St. John's for then 22 NCAA intercollegiate sports programs. Caronia boasts over 30 years of experience in the strength and conditioning and physical education fields. He holds numerous certifications including C.S.C.S.*D, M.S.C.C, and various other specialized credentials. Prior to his second term at St. John's, he worked at the University of Texas-Arlington and Clemson University. He was a graduate assistant at Clemson from 1991-1993, where he worked with multiple sports teams and was part of the 1991 ACC Champion football team. Before that, he started his career in 1988 at Springfield College working with women's soccer and basketball. Throughout his career, Al has coached numerous collegiate athletes who advanced to professional ranks in football, baseball, track, and basketball, and has worked with Olympic athletes in judo, fencing, and track and field. He has published work in national publications and books, lectured at the undergraduate level, and received a Citation from Nassau County in 2001 for volunteer work. Jenna Annecchiarico joined the womenís basketball staff as a graduate assistant in July of 2024. The former standout player is entering her second year with the program. Annecchiarico arrived in Queens after completing her collegiate playing career at the College of Charleston where she played from 2021-24. The standout guard finished her career as the programís all-time assist leader and the fourth all-time leading scorer for the Cougars. In her final season, Annecchiarico averaged 14.9 points per game and set the programís all-time assist record in a season. The Baldwin, N.Y., native also played sharp defense, ranking fourth all-time in steals for a season at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. With her accomplishments, Annecchiarico landed on the 2024 All-CAA First Team and All-Defensive Team. Before Charleston, Annecchiarico played from 2018-21 with Eastern Michigan, playing in 79 games over her three seasons with the Eagles. Kaity Healy was named an assistant coach in July 2024. Healy brings five years of coaching experience with her to Queens following a four-year playing career at Seton Hall from 2015-19. The Freehold, N.J., native most recently served as an assistant coach at American University for the past two seasons. In her role, Healy helped with recruiting efforts, developed perimeter players and worked as the liaison for academics and compliance on behalf of the program. Under her direction, the Eagles had 10 players named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2023-24. Prior to arriving in the nation’s capital, Healy worked as an assistant coach for FDU during the 2021-22 season in which she helped lead the Knights to a Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season title and a berth in the WNIT. Following the Knights’ remarkable season they were honored with the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year award. The year prior, Healy was a member of the 2021 Conference USA Coaching Staff of the Year, while working as the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations for Florida International University (FIU). With the Panthers, Healy was responsible for all aspects of team travel and worked as the liaison for equipment, facilities, academics and compliance. Kristin Quinn was named the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator on Sept. 1, 2023. Prior to her return to Queens, Quinn was hired as Associate Athletic Director for External Operations at Pace University in 2021, overseeing the day-to-day management of the athletic communications department, handling digital production of the Pace Sports Network operated under NE10 Now and sponsorship, marketing and branding efforts for the Setters. Her role also expanded into working with Pace University's Office of Development and Alumni Relations to coordinate fundraising efforts for each of the Setters' varsity teams and support groups while helping manage the Athletics Alumni Association Board. Quinn ran operations for all Pace Athletics Alumni events, including the Setters Alumni and Friends Golf Challenge, the Golf Classic, the Hall of Fame Induction Awards and Dinner and sport specific recognition events. No stranger to St. John's or the BIG EAST, Quinn served as the Assistant Commissioner for Olympic Sports and Marketing & Communications at the BIG EAST Conference for the better part of seven years before arriving at Pace. Among many responsibilities in her role at the BIG EAST, Quinn assisted in the marketing and execution of various sport championships and conference events, including the annual BIG EAST men's basketball tournament and the 2017 NCAA East Regional at Madison Square Garden. After serving as the head women's and assistant men's track coach from 1986-2003, Ray Howell returned to St. John's University as the Associate Director of Academic Support for Student-Athletes in 2008. Howell's primary function is assisting student-athletes in managing their academic requirements. Howell works with the women's basketball, men's soccer, men's and women's fencing and softball teams. Howell, a former student-athlete at St. John's, was the recipient of the University's President's Award for Academics. He was named NCAA Regional Coach of the year in 1989, 1998 and 2000. He also served as ECAC and BIG EAST Conference President. Howell earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1983 and a master's degree in education from St. John's in 1990. He was formerly the director of the Teachers' Professional Development at Stony Brook University and has been a classroom teacher at the secondary and University levels.

Assistant Athletic Trainer (Women's Basketball, Cheer)
Sydney Halligan is in her fourth year at St. John's and in her third season as the head trainer for the women's basketball program. Halligan graduated from Marist College in 2019 with Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Halligan completed her Masters of Professional Studies at St. John's university in 2021, while serving as a graduate assistant in the Sports Medicine department. During her time as a graduate assistant, Halligan worked with softball, women's soccer, and women's tennis. In the summer of 2021, Halligan was hired as assistant athletic trainer for women's basketball. Halligan is a member of the National Athletic Training Association.
