Head Coach
Brock Thompson enters his ninth season at the helm of the South Dakota State soccer program in 2025. It follows a nine-year stint as an assistant with the Jackrabbits. Thompson has a 108-29-22 record at South Dakota State and maintains a 174-79-32 career mark in 14 total seasons as a head coach. SDSU has gone 61-6-11 at home under Thompson’s guidance, which includes a streak of 51 consecutive regular season home matches without a loss the program accumulated from 2018-23. In the past seven years of Summit League play, the Jackrabbits boast a 54-7-12 record. South Dakota State has recorded at least 10 wins per season over the past 12 years, as well as in 16 of the past 17 seasons, and holds the longest active streak of double-digit win seasons among its conference foes. SDSU soccer has developed into the premier program in The Summit League and one of the most consistent programs in the country under Thompson's tutelage. The Jackrabbits over the last seven seasons have recorded the ninth fewest losses in Division I soccer (25), along with the 12th most wins (97) as well as the 12th best winning percentage (.775). Assistant Coach
Caylee Costello will enter her 10th season as a full-time member of the SDSU soccer coaching staff in 2026. This year embarks her first as the program's associate head coach which includes an elevated role for the long-time Jackrabbit coach which was announced in May. Costello has been a mainstay in the program over the past 15 years. She recently completed her ninth season as an assistant coach. Prior to her full-time position, Costello served as a graduate assistant on the staff for two years and as a volunteer assistant for one. Her coaching experience was proceeded by a college career at South Dakota State that saw the former Jackrabbit become a four-time letterwinner. Costello has seen the SDSU program develop into one of the most steady squads in all of Division I women’s soccer. Her time as a student-athlete from 2010-13 featured a Summit League regular season title won during her sophomore campaign. Costello started in every match during her final two years of eligibility at defensive midfield. Her senior year was capped with First Team All-Summit League accolades. She also was one of the first two Jackrabbit soccer players to be named to The Summit League All-Academic Team. Goalkeeping Assistant
Corey Bulheller was hired to join the coaching staff in May of 2024 as a goalkeeping assistant. Bulheller's first season with the Jackrabbits saw the Yellow and Blue make a run through The Summit League tournament en route to a conference title. Bulheller's group featured a rotation of a pair of goalkeepers that were stellar for SDSU. The Jacks finished the 2024 season by leading the league in goals against average (.770) and finish second in save percentage (.813) while accumulating nine shutouts. Bulheller previously spent three seasons assisting both the men’s and women’s soccer teams as a goalkeepers coach at his alma mater, St. Scholastica, in Duluth, Minn. Prior to his coaching experience, Bulheller was a goalkeeper for three years at St. Scholastica. He appeared in 35 games during his playing career for the Saints, recording 12 wins and making 146 saves. His best season came as a senior when he played and started in all 22 matches. He had a 1.74 goals against average and made 91 saves. He registered a .700 saves percentage and produced a conference-best seven clean sheets in 2019 en route to earning First Team All-UMAC accolades. Bulheller is originally from Middleton, England. Prior to his arrival in the United States, Bulheller was a team captain for his Secondary School that won a County Cup championship. He earned his degree from St. Scholastica in psychology.
