Desma Thomas Bateast
Desma Thomas Bateast

Assistant Coach - Director of Player Personnel

Desma Thomas Bateast was hired in July of 2023, bringing in a versatile assistant coach who has great experience in several facets of the game. Bateast enters her fourth season in 2026-27. Bateast has helped the Seminoles to two NCAA Tournament appearances, two 20-win seasons, including a 13-3 record in ACC play 2024-25. Bateast, who serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, helped bring in a talented signing class that includes 2024 portal transfers Malea Williams (Cincinnati), Raiane Dias Dos Santos (Gulf Coast State), Sydney Bowles (Texas A&M) and Morelia Chavez (Eastern Arizona). Prior to Florida State, Bateast saw success at Cleveland State, helping the Vikings record their second 20-win season in three years in 2022-23, winning the Horizon League title and making an appearance at the 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Bateast had a large oversight in recruiting, opponent scouting, game preparation and game strategy in her three years with Cleveland State. From 2017-20, she served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Florida Atlantic where she helped engineer the second-best turnaround for a coaching staff in a debut season at an NCAA Division I program. The Owls had their highest scoring average in several years at 70.6 points per game in that 2017-18 season, where she focused on skill development for guards and wings, among other responsibilities. She was part of a successful run at USF from 2013-17, helping the nationally-ranked Bulls make four po

Morgan Toles
Morgan Toles

Assistant Coach - Director of Player Development

Morgan Toles returned to her Alma mater as the team's assistant coach on July 13, 2020. She will begin her seventh season in 2026-27. Since her return, Toles has helped the Seminoles to five NCAA appearances and three 20-win seasons. While primarily serving as the team's defensive coordinator, Toles has guided Makayla Timpson to national prominence during the 2024-25 season, where she was a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and finalist for the Katrina McClain award. Timpson set FSU single-season record for blocked shots in the 2023-24 season with 87 and surpassed that mark as a senior with 103. She also holds the program record for single-season rebounds at 350 and is the only Seminoles to grab 300 or more rebounds in a single season, twice in her career. Timpson is a three-time member of the ACC All-Defensive Team and was selected 19th overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. Toles spent four seasons with Kent State from 2016-20, mentoring the team’s point guards, serving as the Golden Flashes’ recruiting coordinator and guiding the school to plenty of success. In the 2019-20 season, Kent State won its second Mid-American Conference East Division Title under Toles, while two of her guards in Megan Carter and Katie Shumate earned All-MAC recognition. Shumate was the first freshman to earn All-MAC honors at Kent State since 2008. Year after year, Toles found a way to make an enormous difference. In 2018-19, former Kent State player Naddiya
