Since his appointment, Butts has compiled a 160-135-1 (.542) career record with the Mountaineers. He has led WVU to 11 appearances at the NCAA Regional Championships and a program-best, second-place showing at the 2015 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship. 2025 Season The 2025 campaign saw one of the greatest climbs by a WVU squad in program history, as Butts’ Mountaineers soared 18 spots in the national rankings to finish the season ranked No. 33 overall after starting at No. 51. After a disappointing start to the campaign, West Virginia posted three scores of 196.0 or higher to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships with a 195.855 National Qualifying Score. Additionally, senior Anna Leigh and freshmen Karleigh DiCello and Sophia Rice qualified for the regional championships as individual event specialists. West Virginia also saw plenty of individual recognition in 2025, highlighted by Leigh, DiCello and Rice’s qualifications for the regional championships.
