Head Coach

Since his appointment, Butts has compiled a 160-135-1 (.542) career record with the Mountaineers. He has led WVU to 11 appearances at the NCAA Regional Championships and a program-best, second-place showing at the 2015 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship. 2025 Season The 2025 campaign saw one of the greatest climbs by a WVU squad in program history, as Butts’ Mountaineers soared 18 spots in the national rankings to finish the season ranked No. 33 overall after starting at No. 51. After a disappointing start to the campaign, West Virginia posted three scores of 196.0 or higher to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships with a 195.855 National Qualifying Score. Additionally, senior Anna Leigh and freshmen Karleigh DiCello and Sophia Rice qualified for the regional championships as individual event specialists. West Virginia also saw plenty of individual recognition in 2025, highlighted by Leigh, DiCello and Rice’s qualifications for the regional championships. Athletic Trainer
Hailee Settle serves as the primary athletics trainer for the gymnastics and rifle teams after joining West Virginia University athletics in January 2021. Her current role includes the day-to-day care, rehabilitation and injury prevention for athletes in those specific sports. Settle arrived at WVU after fulfilling a one-year internship as an athletic trainer for Florida's men's and women's track & field and cross country teams. She also acted as the host athletic trainer during the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships. Prior to her time at Florida, Settle spent two years as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's tennis teams at Oklahoma State. She also spent three years as a TCU athletic training student and worked with several of the Horned Frog teams, including football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track & field. Settle also worked several postseason events for the TCU baseball and tennis teams. A native of Burleson, Texas, Settle earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from TCU in 2017. She received her master's degree from OSU in 2019 in applied exercise science and completed her doctorate of athletic training from A.T. Still University in 2025.

Strength & Conditioning Coach
Kaitlin Sweeney joined the Mountaineer athletics staff in November 2018 and currently oversees the daily administration and management of the Olympic sports strength and conditioning department. In addition, Sweeney handles the strength and conditioning responsibilities of the volleyball and gymnastics teams. Sweeney arrived in Morgantown following an eight-year stint at Notre Dame, where she served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach overseeing the softball and track and field programs. Among her responsibilities, Sweeney designed, organized and implemented a comprehensive training program for both teams. Additionally, in 2018, she had oversight of the 2018 NCAA National Champion women’s basketball team’s strength and conditioning program and also worked with the women’s volleyball team and the men’s and women’s swimming programs. While at Notre Dame, Sweeney worked directly with her team’s head coaches, dietitians and medical staffs to ensure holistic, high-performance approaches to maximize performance of each student-athlete. Prior to her time with the Irish, Sweeney served as the head football strength and conditioning coach, as well as the assistant Olympic sports strength and conditioning coach, at Dartmouth (2008-10). While there, she worked directly with football, women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s crew and golf. Olivia Sneed joined the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in June of 2021, where she serves as an Assistant Director of Athletics Communications and the primary media contact for the WVU women's soccer and gymnastics teams. Sneed served as a graduate assistant in the WVU Athletics Communications Office from 2019-21 as the primary media contact for men's and women's swimming and diving, track and field/cross country and men's soccer. She also aided with the communication efforts for the football team, along with other Mountaineer programs. During her time as a graduate assistant, Sneed also served as the interim contact for the women's soccer and men's golf teams. Prior to her time as a graduate assistant, Sneed interned with the WVU Athletics Communications Office and WVU Athletics Video Department from 2016-19. A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Sneed earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from West Virginia University in 2019 and a master's degree in sport management from WVU in 2021.

While in this role, WVU hosted the 2024 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, the 2024 NCAA Rifle National Championship and the 2024 Men's Soccer Sun Belt Soccer Tournament. Before joining WVU, Jenkins worked as the scheduling coordinator for recreational sports at Ohio State University. In this position, she served as the main contact for scheduling and coordinating events and practices for over 60 club sports at Ohio State. Jenkins earned a B.S. in education from Ohio State in 2022 and an M.S. in sport management from West Virginia in 2025.
