Defensive Analyst
Ashton Derico joined the Mountaineer coaching staff as a defensive analyst in April 2025. Derico returned to Morgantown from Western Illinois, where he served as the defensive line coach and professional liaison for one season. Assistant Special Teams Coordinator
Haering is entering his second season as WVU’s assistant special teams coach. In 2024, the WVU kickoff return defense was ranked No. 12 in Power Four, the kickoff return unit was ranked No. 17 among Power Four, the Mountaineers were ranked No. 44 nationally in net punting and the punt return defense was ranked No. 4 in the Big 12. Kicker Michael Hayes II was ranked No. 6 among Power Four in field goal percentage. Haering came to WVU from Wisconsin, where he coached the special teams for seven seasons for Paul Chryst before transitioning to tight ends coach in 2022. His special teams units helped the Badgers post a combined 65-23 record, claim three Big Ten West Division titles and earn six bowl game wins — making three appearances in New Year’s Six bowls (Cotton, Orange, Rose). The Badgers won a school-record 13 games in 2017, with junior kicker Rafael Gaglianone playing a key role. He converted 16 of 18 field goal attempts, ranking him No. 4 nationally and standing as the second-best mark in school history. Gaglianone also finished his career as UW’s all-time leader with 70 field goals and 216 extra points. Haering oversaw a massive improvement in the Badgers’ kickoff unit. The trend began in 2016, with UW recording touchbacks on 63% of kickoffs. In the season prior to Haering’s arrival, only 30% of the Badgers’ kickoffs went for touchbacks. That trend continued in 2017 when the Badgers led the Big Ten in kickoff average at 64.1 yards per kick and recorded touchbacks on 65.9

General Manager
Chuck Lillie is in his first year as the general manager for the Mountaineer football program. He came to West Virginia from Oklahoma, where he was the assistant general manager since April 2024. While there, he worked with current WVU assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Zac Alley and nickels/sams coach Henry Weinreich. At WVU, Lillie is the lead negotiator on all player acquisition deals, and oversees the scouting and recruiting operation and roster management process, including high school, junior college and portal recruitment and player retainment. At OU, Lillie oversaw roster management in conjunction with the head coach, overseeing the recruiting and scouting process for all players. He assisted the general manager and communicated with player representatives in negotiating NIL deals. Lillie went to Oklahoma after spending the previous four seasons at Kansas State as the director of scouting. He was responsible for evaluation of prospects' film, hosting prospects and assisting in the recruiting operation efforts of the staff. Prior to Kansas State, Lillie spent five years on Clemson's support staff, working four years in the program's recruiting department and one season as a defensive graduate student intern. Medical Director/Head Team Physician
A.J. Monseau, M.D., WVU Medicine Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine physician, has been the head team physician and medical director for WVU Athletics since 2017. In 2016, Dr. Monseau served as the team physician for WVU Men's Basketball. He also served as team physician for USA Wrestling at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Monseau leads the University's staff of team physicians and works in conjunction with the athletic training staff to provide healthcare to all student-athletes. This includes injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and counseling. Originally from the Northern Panhandle, Monseau received his medical degree from and completed his residency training at the WVU School of Medicine. He then completed fellowship training in primary care sports medicine at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He returned to his alma mater after completing his fellowship in 2011. Currently, Monseau is a professor in the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition to working as an attending physician in the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, he also sees sports medicine patients through WVU Medicine Orthopaedics. He is board certified in emergency medicine and primary care sports medicine. Jake Herron is the associate director of creative content for the Mountaineer football program. Lori Rice has been an administrative associate with the Mountaineer Football program since 1987. She handles administrative responsibilities relating to the activities of the head football coach and the associate director of athletics for football. She oversees the head coach's calendar, including speaking engagements, fundraising activities and media appointments. She handles his travel, daily schedule, expense reporting and correspondence with the Big 12 and the American Football Coaches' Association. Assistant Athletics Director/Head Coach for Strength and Conditioning
Mike Joseph has overseen the strength and conditioning unit at West Virginia since 2008, serving as the director until being named assistant athletics director in 2018 and assistant athletics director/head coach for football strength and conditioning in 2019. The sports science allows the staff to monitor load management, external and internal stressors, and develop a routine to maximize performance and preparation. He administers, coordinates, develops, implements and teaches strength and conditioning programs for all WVU student-athletes with an emphasis on the football program. Joseph has coached 27 football players who earned All-America honors and more than 100 athletes who were either drafted or signed free-agent contracts in the NFL. Former Mountaineer standout running back Noel Devine has returned to his alma mater in January 2025 as an offensive analyst and assistant running backs coach. Devine was a three-year starter at running back from 2007-10 and became WVU career all-purpose yardage leader (5,761 yards). The Fort Myers, Florida, native ranks third on WVU’s career rushing chart and No. 4 in Big East history with 4,315 yards. He is WVU’s all-time running back receptions leader with 98 and third in running back receiving yards with 710. Devine ranks sixth on WVU’s all-time rushing touchdown list (29) and 10th on WVU’s all-time scoring chart (186) by a position player. The All-Big East First-Team selection had 19 career 100-yard rushing games with 12 career runs of 50 yards or more, 28 runs of 30 yards or more and 36 runs of 25 yards or more. He played in four bowl games: 2008 Fiesta, 2008 Meineke Car Care, 2010 Gator and 2010 Champs Sports. Devine finished his WVU career as one of 16 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, signifying the top offensive player in the nation. Following his collegiate playing career, Devine signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. He played for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League in 2011, the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 2012-13 and the Edmonton Eskimos in 2014. Devine participated in The Spring League in 2017 and played for the West Virginia Roughriders in 2019, helping guide them to the league championship.

West Virginia University Sports Hall of Famer and Mountaineer Legend Society member Rasheed Marshall returned to WVU in March 2023 as the director of player relations for the football program. The 2004 Big East Offensive Player of the Year and standout WVU quarterback executes the program's culture by having a daily presence at study hall, mandatory meals, weight room, training room and student-athlete activities. One of the longest tenured (52 years) and most accomplished offensive line coaches in the nation, Rick Trickett returned in 2026 for his third stint with the Mountaineers (1976-79, 2001-06) and third as a member of Rodriguez’s staff. He coached with Rodriguez at West Virginia (2001-06) and at Jacksonville State (2022-24). He comes back to West Virginia after serving as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Jacksonville State for the past four seasons. Six players he coached earned all-conference honors, and he assisted Rodriguez with Jax State football’s transition from the FCS ranks to FBS. Ryan Nehlen is the assistant wide receivers coach on the Mountaineer Football coaching staff. He re-joined the Mountaineer football coaching staff in February 2024 as a senior offensive analyst and special assistant to the head coach after serving for two years as the tight ends coach at McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In his role at WVU, Nehlen organizes, implements and maintains all aspects of game analysis for the offensive coaching staff and manages the walk-on program. He charts/tracks statistics during practice and competition, analyzes game film and formulates game plans to assist the offensive coaching staff with game preparation. He organizes the practice schedule, manages the offensive graduate assistants and student coaches and supports the head coach with recruiting communication. Thayne Bukowski joined the Mountaineer coaching staff as an offensive analyst in January 2025. The Crown Point, Indiana, native arrived in Morgantown from Jacksonville State where he served as the director of skill development from 2022-24. Tucker Donati joined the Mountaineer coaching staff in 2022 as a graduate assistant coach, working with the special teams, before being promoted to the assistant special teams coach in August 2024. In 2024, WVU kickoff return defense was ranked No. 12 among Power Four schools in kickoff return defense, No. 17 in kickoff returns and No. 44 in net punting. The punt return defense ranked No. 4 in the Big 12. Kicker Michael Hayes II ranked No. 6 among the Power Four in field goal percentage.
