Chester Frazier

Associate Head Coach

Joined Virginia Tech men’s basketball staff: first stint (2019-21), then returned to the program in April 2025. He enters his third season with the program as associate head coach. With the Hokies: Frazier has had a knack of developing talent in his coaching tenure and that has rung true so far his first two years in Blacksburg, helping Keve Aluma break out for an All-ACC season in 2020-21 and Wabissa Bede owning the sixth-best assist-turnover ratio in the country (3.34) in 2019-20. Frazier, a tremendous scouter, was also fundamental in Tech’s upset wins over then-No. 3 Villanova in 2020-21 and then-No. 3 Michigan State in 2019-20. He was vital in breaking the ACC record for most 3-pointers made in a game with 21 in 2019-20, as well as getting the Hokies to the NCAA tournament in 2021 to extend their streak to a school-record four straight appearances. Prior to Virginia Tech: Frazier brings more than a decade of coaching experience from the ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten conferences to the Tech men’s basketball program. In his one season in Morgantown as an associate head coach, Frazier and the Mountaineers went 19-13 overall and 10-10 in Big 12 play, narrowly missing out on the NCAA tournament. WVU posted top-25 wins over No. 3 Gonzaga, No. 24 Arizona, No. 7 Kansas and No. 2 Iowa State along the way. Further complementing his strong relationships with players, Frazier helped assemble the No. 23-ranked recruiting class in 2025 for the Mountaineers. Frazier, an Illinois alumnus, spen
