Trent Kersten

Biography

Trent Kersten was named the eighth head coach of the Oregon volleyball program in February 2025 by UO athletic director Rob Mullens. Kersten, the 2024 WCC Coach of the Year, comes to Eugene after a standout season at Loyola Marymount where he led the Lions to the WCC Championship and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Kersten spent the past two seasons at LMU where he was 45-12 overall with a 29-5 record in conference play. In those two years, he coached his LMU student-athletes to 13 All-WCC selections, seven WCC All-Academic performers and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-America certificate. Overall, Kersten carries a 92-40 record in five seasons as a head coach. He spent three seasons as the head coach at San Jose State (2020-22). Kersten led LMU to a 25-6 record in 2024 and their first West Coast Conference title since 1996. The 25 wins marked the most by the program since 2003 and the team’s 16 conference wins were the most in program history. Among the wins, LMU beat eventual-NCAA national seed SMU during the non-conference season and took down Washington in five sets in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Individually, Kersten coached LMU outside hitter Paige Flickinger to AVCA Honorable Mention All-Region and All-America accolades. He also saw Sam Hastings and Mia Schafer named WCC Libero and Co-Setter of the Year, respectively.
