Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach
Brock Sheahan was named Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach in March 2025 after serving two seasons as associate head coach with the Irish. He becomes the fifth head coach in the modern era of the program. In his first two seasons back at Notre Dame, Sheahan was involved in all aspects of the Notre Dame program on a daily basis and was stationed with the defensemen during most games. He helped run Notre Dame’s special teams units, primarily focusing on the penalty kill team on game days. In his first season with the Irish, Sheahan was instrumental in the development of a young roster. His emphasis on player development led five graduates to sign professional contracts at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, including a pair of NHL signees in Landon Slaggert (Chicago) and Drew Bavaro (Boston). His return to the Irish came following a stint as the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. In one season with the team he led the Wolves to a 35-29-5 regular season record. Prior to his time with the Wolves, Sheahan spent four seasons with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. With the Steel, Sheahan was a key component in the development of 28 NHL Draftees with five first-round selections and collegiate hockey stars, including current Irish junior Tyler Carpenter. Oglevie was announced as an assistant coach of the Notre Dame hockey program ahead of the 2025-26 season after a two-year stint with Colorado College. During his time with the Tigers, Oglevie helped them to a 39-31-4 record, including a 21-13-3 mark in 2023-24 which marked their best program record in over a decade and most single-season wins since 2010-11. His time at Colorado College saw two individuals earn All-American Award honors as well as the 2023-24 NCHC Defensive Forward of the Year in Noah Laba. Oglevie also worked closely overseeing the Tigers’ powerplay efforts and individualized player developmental plans and skill sessions, implementing new strategies and boasting the top-ranked faceoff unit at the NCAA Division I level in 2023-24. As a volunteer assistant coach for the Irish in 2022-23, Oglevie helped oversee the offense and led the team to a home playoff berth in the Big Ten Tournament. His role with the program also included an emphasis on individual player development through focus on player habits and technical skills while assisting in the recruiting evaluations of prospective student-athletes. Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach Brock Sheahan announced the addition of Mike Garman as Associate Head Coach in May 2025. Garman arrived in South Bend after eight seasons with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL) where he served in a variety of roles during his time with the Steel, including as an Assistant Coach, Associate Head Coach, General Manager (GM), and most recently, as GM/Head Coach. He previously served under Sheahan as an Associate Head Coach from 2019-21, where the duo led the team to a pair of Anderson Cups, awarded to the league’s regular season champions, as well as the 2021 Clark Cup Championship. He was promoted to GM in Sheahan’s last season as head coach with the Steel in 2021-22. In addition to the two Anderson Cups, and Clark Cup, the Steel finished first in the USHL’s Eastern Conference in four of Garman’s eight years with the Steel. Garman succeeded Sheahan as Head Coach of the Steel following his departure for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League in 2022-23 before Sheahan’s arrival back at the University of Notre Dame in 2023-24. Since taking over the Steel prior to the start of the 2022-23 season, Garman has led the Steel to a record of 86-82-18, and has an overall record of 269-159-50 in his eight seasons with the team. Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach Brock Sheahan announced the final addition to his inaugural staff, Tristan Musser, to serve as Assistant Coach beginning November 1, 2025. His primary responsibilities will include personalized player development of current student-athletes and emphasized recruiting efforts of prospective student-athletes. Musser joins the University of Notre Dame hockey program following five seasons in the National Hockey League as a scout for the Buffalo Sabres. Sheahan and Musser previously worked alongside each other in the Chicago Steel organization where Musser served as the Director of Player Development, Skills Coach and Director of Player Personnel. During their time together with the Steel, the pair – along with current Irish Associate Head Coach Mike Garman – led the team to the Anderson Cup, awarded to the USHL’s regular season champions. During his time with the Steel, Musser helped develop countless young talent, including that of current NHLers Jackson LaCombe (ANA), Owen Power (BUF), Sam Colangelo (ANA), Mackie Samoskevich (FLA), Josh Doan (BUF), Brendan Brisson (NYR), and Matt Coronato (CGY), among others. Following his stint with the Steel, Musser became one of the top regional scouts in the NHL with a knack for spotting talent at all levels of hockey.
