Shawn Stiffler

John P. and Catherine Murphy Head Baseball Coach

HC

Shawn Stiffler enters his fourth season as John P. and Catherine Murphy Head Baseball Coach in the 2025-26 academic year. Through the 2025 season, he owns a 429-268 career record (three seasons at Notre Dame, 10 seasons at VCU). He was named the 22nd head coach of the University of Notre Dame baseball program on July 12, 2022, and the Irish went 30-24 in his first season, with a 17-7 record at home. Stiffler picked up his second 30+ win season with the Irish in the 2025 season as his squad won five consecutive series in the span of a month. Four members of the 2025 Irish team garnered All-ACC honors. The squad has gone 89-70 over the past three years. Stiffler turned the VCU baseball program into one of the most consistent programs in the country in his decade at the helm, as it was one of just seven programs nationally to earn 34 or more wins in each of the eight full seasons between 2015-2022. “We are excited to welcome Shawn (Stiffler) and his family to our Notre Dame community,” University Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick said. “He’s a perfect fit to lead our nationally-respected program both on and off the field as his approach to coaching and culture mirrors that of our Institution.” “I first want to thank Father Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick and Jody Sadler for the confidence to lead this outstanding program,” Stiffler said. “My family and I are extremely humbled and ready to get started.” “Notre Dame is the finest university in the count

Adam Dofflemyer joined the Notre Dame baseball coaching staff in Fall 2024 as a Coach Fellow in the role of Director of Pitching Development. In Fall 2025, Dofflemyer was named as the Program Director of Pitching Strategy and Development. He helped mentor the 2025 pitching staff to finish third among the ACC in shutouts and walks allowed per nine innings. “I am truly honored to join the staff here at Notre Dame,” said Dofflemyer. “Coach Stiffler and his team have an established vision for success, and I am eager to contribute to our student-athletes’ growth and help them compete at the highest level nationally.” “We are extremely lucky to have Adam join our program,” added Stiffler. “He has an advanced understanding for motor preferences and how to incorporate it into player development. His impact will be felt immediately by our players.” Dofflemyer joined the Irish staff most recently from George Washington University, where he held the title of Director of Pitching/Player Development. Before his stint at George Washington, Dofflemyer was the pitching coach at the University of Mary Washington. At Mary Washington, the team’s pitching staff had marked statistical improvement throughout the season as the Eagles’ hits per nine innings and ERA dropped significantly during the spring. The team posted four shutouts in 2024, and the pitchers had an ERA which ranked within the top 40 at the NCAA Division III level. Four of the Eagles’ pitchers were named all-conference while one me

Lucas Jones

Assistant Coach

The University of Notre Dame’s John P. and Catherine Murphy Head Baseball Coach Shawn Stiffler has announced the hiring of Lucas Jones as an assistant coach for the baseball program. Jones will coordinate infield development and oversee all aspects of baserunning and the short game, while assisting Ryan Munger, who has been promoted to recruiting coordinator in addition to his current role as assistant coach, with hitting. In his first season with the Irish, Jones helped the Irish hitters draw the most walks in a season in 20 years and post their third-consecutive year of 80+ doubles, 10+ triples and 60+ home runs during the Stiffler era. “Lucas has been a winner at every level of college baseball,” Stiffler said. “During his head coaching stops, Lucas has taken three different programs and turned them into national brands and champions. His love for teaching the game and ability to develop relationships will have a huge impact on our program. We are thrilled to have Lucas, Karla and their three children join the Notre Dame family.” “My wife and I, along with our three children – Gavin, Hadley and Dayton – are extremely grateful to the University of Notre Dame and Coach Shawn Stiffler for this incredible opportunity,” said Jones. “My goal is to assist this great institution by serving our student-athletes at the highest level and helping share in the vision that Coach Stiffer and his staff have established.” Jones joins the Fighting Irish after a successful coaching stint at

Munger was promoted to assistant coach in 2023 and was elevated to recruiting coordinator in the fall of 2024. After joining Davidson in the fall of 2013, Munger worked primarily with the catchers and assisted with hitting. In 2022, he helped guide the Wildcats to a 43-13 overall mark, a 20-4 Atlantic 10 Conference record as Davidson earned the 2022 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship, finishing a game ahead of Stiffler's VCU team. In his time with Davidson, Munger helped lead the program to new heights, winning the most games in a season in program history in 2017, 2018 and further improving that total during the 2022 season.
