Head Coach
Tomekia Reed was named the ninth head women’s basketball coach for the Charlotte 49ers in April of 2024. Reed just finished her second season at the helm of Charlotte Women’s Basketball, doubling her conference wins from year one to year two and coaching two players named to the American Conference Postseason teams. Under Reed’s guidance, Charlotte ranked fifth in the NCAA averaging 17 offensive rebounds and led the conference with a +7.44 rebounding margin in league play. In year one with Charlotte, Reed made history by taking the 12th seeded 49ers to the American Conference Tournament quarterfinals, becoming just the second team to do so in the conference history. Reed, a three-time HBCU National Coach of the Year, came to Charlotte following a highly successful six-year stint as head coach of the Jackson State Tigers. Reed took Jackson State to new heights by winning five consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season titles and three SWAC tournament titles, including back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022. UNC Charlotte Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber said: “Tomekia Reed is one of the most talented young coaches in college basketball today. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence, both on and off the court. We are delighted to welcome Tomekia to Niner Nation.” In maki
