Blake Wetherington

Biography

Blake Wetherington enters his second season as an assistant coach with the UC Riverside men’s basketball program in 2025–26. Recognized for his expertise in recruiting, scouting, and player development, Wetherington brings experience from several elite college basketball programs and has played a key role in the success of numerous future NBA players. Wetherington arrives in Riverside after a season at Virginia Tech, where he oversaw the Hokies’ recruiting strategy and operations, coordinated on-campus visits, and contributed to player development and opponent scouting. Prior to Virginia Tech, he spent two seasons at Arkansas as the Razorbacks’ Assistant Director of Recruiting and Scouting. During his time in Fayetteville, Arkansas reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2023 and had three players – Anthony Black, Nick Smith Jr., and Jordan Walsh – selected in the top 40 picks of the NBA Draft. Off the court, the Razorbacks signed a McDonald’s All-American and two consensus top-40 recruits, while landing a top-five transfer portal class. From 2018–22, Wetherington worked at Iowa State as a Graduate Assistant and later as the Recruiting and Scouting Coordinator. He helped guide the Cyclones to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2022, and a Big 12 Tournament Championship in 2019. He was instrumental in the development of multiple NBA players including Lottery Pick Tyrese Haliburton, Talen Horton-Tucker, Lindell Wigginton, and Marial Shayok during his time in Ames
