Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Blake Wetherington enters his second season as an assistant coach with the UC Riverside men’s basketball program in 2025–26. Prior to Virginia Tech, he spent two seasons at Arkansas as the Razorbacks’ Assistant Director of Recruiting and Scouting. During his time in Fayetteville, Arkansas reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2023 and had three players – Anthony Black, Nick Smith Jr., and Jordan Walsh – selected in the top 40 picks of the NBA Draft. Off the court, the Razorbacks signed a McDonald’s All-American and two consensus top-40 recruits, while landing a top-five transfer portal class. From 2018–22, Wetherington worked at Iowa State as a Graduate Assistant and later as the Recruiting and Scouting Coordinator. He helped guide the Cyclones to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2022, and a Big 12 Tournament Championship in 2019. Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Evan Oliver joins the UC Riverside men’s basketball program as an assistant coach, bringing collegiate playing experience, professional competition and player development expertise to the Highlanders. Oliver was a four-year scholarship student-athlete at California State University, Chico, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from 2020–24. Following his undergraduate career, he continued his education at California State University, San Bernardino, working toward a master’s degree in education. Professionally, Oliver competed for the Derby Trailblazers in England beginning in September 2025. His responsibilities included on-court preparation and performance, role execution, teamwork and communication at the professional level — experience that provides valuable insight into player accountability and game preparation. In addition to his playing career, Oliver has extensive experience in player development. He worked as a personal trainer from 2021–25, training high school athletes in basketball skill development, conditioning and overall athletic IQ. His background in multi-sport individual skill development and physical performance aligns with UC Riverside’s emphasis on growth both on and off the court. Oliver’s strengths include communication, collaboration, problem solving and physical conditioning, making him a strong addition to the Highlanders’ coaching staff.

Matthew Musselman enters his second season as an assistant coach with the UC Riverside men’s basketball after joining for the 2025–26. Respected for his expertise in recruiting, scouting, and player development, Musselman has contributed to the success of several top-tier college basketball programs and played a pivotal role in recruiting and shaping the careers of numerous professional players. Born in Atlanta Georgia, raised in the Northern California Bay Area / San Diego, Matthew Musselman is a rising figure in collegiate basketball coaching. He comes from a coaching background where both his father (Eric Musselman) and grandfather (Bill Musselman) were head coaches at the NBA and Division One level. He is known for his strong work ethic, recruiting tactics, and strategic understanding of the game. Most recently, Musselman served as a graduate assistant for the University of Southern California Men's Basketball program during the 2024–2025 season under head coach Eric Musselman, where he played a key role in game preparation, player development, and recruiting operations. He assisted USC bringing in the #7 ranked transfer class and #34 ranked high school class which includes five star McDonald's All American Alijah Arenas. Reuben Williams enters his second season with UC Riverside after joining the program for the 2025-26 season following two highly successful years as an assistant coach at Montana under head coach Travis DeCuire. During his time in Missoula, Williams helped Montana to one of its most productive stretches in program history. The Grizzlies tallied 49 wins over two seasons — the fourth-most in any two-year span in school history — highlighted by a 25-win campaign in 2024-25, the program’s first 25+ win season since 2018-19. Montana finished ranked No. 21 in the final CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll — the program’s highest ranking since 2019. In his first year, Montana finished 24-12 and won a postseason game for the first time since 2006 and just the second time ever. That 2023-24 team set a new program record with 2,768 total points scored in a single season and shot a program-best 79.2% from the free throw line. Williams played a pivotal role in both recruiting and player development at Montana. He helped develop Brandon Whitney, the 2024 Big Sky Tournament MVP, who set career highs in assists and three-point percentage while graduating as the program’s all-time assist leader (443).
