Assistant Coach - Safeties
Bishop Neal joins the Zips ahead of the 2025 season. Neal joins the Zips after three seasons at Monmouth. The 2023 season saw Neal oversee a secondary unit that featured a pair of All-CAA caliber student-athletes in Eddie Morales III and Mike Reid. Morales III was named All-CAA Honorable Mention and was recognized by Phil Steele/Draft Scout with a spot on its All-CAA Second Team. Reid picked up a All-CAA Third Team nod from Phil Steele/Draft Scout. Morales III led the team and set a career high with four interceptions, while Reid paced the defensive unit with eight pass breakups, giving him 27 for his career, a number that ranks fourth in program history. Neal mentored Reid during the 2022 season as the junior corner earned Third Team All-CAA honors after finishing the year with 12 passes defended, 52 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception. Reid's 11 pass breakups were the fifth most in the NCAA. “We are excited to have Bishop join our coaching staff,” said Callahan at the time of his hiring. “I have been impressed by the success that he has achieved, and I have enjoyed watching his defensive units perform. We fell that Bishop is a great fit for our team and staff, and that he will continue the development of our defensive secondary.” Neal came to Monmouth from Duquesne University where he served as defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator for the 2021 season. While with the Dukes he prepared the pass game scouting report and recruited areas that Monmouth has

Associate Head Coach | Tight Ends
Coach Ferri on Twitter Reno Ferri is in his second season as associate head coach and tight ends coach for University of Akron head coach Joe Moorhead in 2023. A veteran coach with strong recruiting ties, Ferri returned to Akron after six seasons at Syracuse. He was named tight ends coach for the Orange in Jan. 2016 and began overseeing the inside receivers in 2018. Ferri’s work helped the Orange produce three of the four highest total offense seasons in program history, including the second 6,000-yard campaign in the Syracuse annals in 2018. Additionally, his mentorship has aided in the development of Orange standouts Luke Benson, Aaron Hackett, Sean Riley, Ravian Pierce and Chris Elmore. In 2020, Hackett tied Syracuse’s career record for touchdowns by a tight end (9). He had been one of the best red-zone threats in the ACC for the last few years of his SU career. Hackett’s six TD catches in 2019 were second among ACC tight ends and the most for an Orange player at the position since 2011. Riley, who signed a free agent contract with New England Patriots after the 2019 season, snagged 36 passes in his final campaign to finish No. 10 in school history with 119 receptions. Overall, 84 percent (100 out of 119) of Riley’s career catches came in the two seasons with Ferri. In 2018, Ferri’s units contributed to a record-setting offense that powered the Orange to a 10-3 record and a Camping World Bowl victory against West Virginia. Syracuse tallied a program-best 523 points and tie

Assistant Coach | Special Teams
Ryan Matviko returns for his second season as Special Team’s coordinator for University of Akron head coach Joe Moorhead in 2025 after leading one of the most productive and record-setting special teams units in program history. In 2024, Akron's special teams made one of the biggest jumps in FBS special team’s efficiency (ESPN) ranking improving 66 spots. Under his guidance, Akron led the FBS in punts pinned inside the 5-yard line, topped the MAC in net punting and kickoff coverage, and broke multiple school records including highest field goal percentage, punt average, and total touchbacks. 2024 Akron special teams units scored two touchdowns as well, the first time since 2015. His unit also produced a 2024 MAC First-Team All-Conference punter in Avery Book. Before his promotion, Matviko served as an Offensive Analyst at Akron (2022-2023), working with the quarterback room. His work contributed to DJ Irons earning MAC Third-Team All-Conference honors in 2022. Prior to Akron, Matviko spent three seasons at the University of Hawai‘I (2019-2021), where he served as both an Offensive and Defensive Analyst his first two seasons. During his tenure, the Rainbow Warriors captured the 2019 West Division title and won back-to-back bowl games (2019 Hawai‘i Bowl, 2020 New Mexico Bowl). He helped with the development of quarterback Chevan Cordeiro and 2024 6th round draft pick linebacker Darius Muasau. During his last season he was promoted to lead the Special Teams units. That season he

Defensive Coordinator | Linebackers
Coach Tibesar on Twitter Tim Tibesar is in his second season as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for University of Akron head coach Joe Moorhead in 2023. Tibesar came to Akron after working four seasons at Oregon State as defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach. During his tenure the Beavers’ defense improved from allowing 43.0 points per game in 2017 (year prior to his arrival) to 25.9 points per game in 2021. Tibesar helped Oregon State return to respectability and competitiveness as the Beavers earned a bowl invitation in 2021 for the first time since 2013. In 2019, Tibesar tutored the Beavers’ outside linebacker Hamilcar Rashed Jr to consensus All-America honors as he led the nation in TFLs (22.5) and set an Oregon State single-season record with 14 sacks. After the 2020 season, Rashed went on to the NFL with the New York Jets. The Beavers’ defensive unit ranked 14th nationally in 2021 with 15 interceptions. Avery Roberts (128) and Omar Speights (89), who earned Freshman All-America honors in 2019, finished first and eighth, respectively, in the Pac-12 in tackles. Tibesar came to Corvalis after serving as the outside linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator (2017) at Wisconsin for three seasons (2015-17). Tibesar made a memorable impression during his time in Madison, a run that saw five of his pupils selected in the NFL draft and via free agency. The Badgers’ defense ranked among the nation’s best during Tibesar’s tenure as Wisconsin al
