Head Coach
A member of the 2025 Intercollegiate Rowing Association Coaching Staff of the Year, Brendan Cunningham, who was a four-year member of the Owls men's crew team and is a USRowing Level III Certified Coach, begins his third season at the helm of his alma mater in 2025-26. Last season was a return to glory for the Owls, as Cunningham saw his outfit earn IRA Comeback Team of the Year. Given to a team that has shown significant improvement with their perseverance, determination and dedication, the 2024-25 team personified that phrase throughout the season. The top three varsity eight boats were consistently ranked in the top 20 of the IRCA/IRA Top 25 polls all season and put together outstanding performances leading into Dad Vail Regatta. Facing off against three other ranked opponents in the final, the first varsity eight took home a thrilling win at the finish line to win back the Richard O'Brien - James Hanna Trophy at Dad Vail Regatta for the first time since 2021. The second varsity eight also earned gold at Dad Vail Regatta, as did the novice eight. The top two varsity boats, along with the third varsity eight, all closed the regular season with Top 20 showings at IRA National Championships - including a 16th-place showing by the second varsity eight. For their efforts, two boats - an eight and a four - were selected for competition at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in England. Assistant AD/Facilities and Event Management (MCrew, WRow)
Temple alum Bryan Kulp ('04) returned to the University as an Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities in September, 2012. Kulp previously served as the Director of Internal Operations at Drexel University, where he worked for six years. Kulp was promoted to his most recent position at Drexel in May of 2011. He started with Drexel in 2006 as the operations assistant and was promoted to the coordinator of athletics operations within one year of being hired. He also previously served as the manager of athletic operations and events. Before Kulp began working at Drexel, he was the championships assistant with the Atlantic 10 Conference for the 2004-05 season. He graduated from Temple in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management.

Coach Emeritus
After serving 37 years as the head coach of Temple men's crew, Dr. Gavin R. White moved into the Coach Emeritus role following the 2016 season. Under his guidance, Temple crew has achieved distinction both nationally and internationally. His boats have won 20 Dad Vail Regatta Varsity 8 titles, including an impressive 13 consecutive titles from 1989-2001. White has also led the Owls to seven invitations to Great Britain's premiere regatta, the renowned Royal Henley Regatta (1983-86, 1989, 1990, 1994). In Temple's seven appearances, White’s crews qualified to the grand final once (1984) and into the quarterfinals four times (1985, 1990, 1993, 1994). After serving as an assistant for three seasons, White became only the second head coach in Temple crew history. He succeeded Tom "Bear" Curran in 1979 and has been the men's coach ever since, with the exception of the 1984-85 season when he took a sabbatical to work on a doctoral degree, which he received from Temple in 1986. Honored as the 2003 Schuylkill Navy Coach of the Year, White coached the men's four at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where his crew finished fifth in the finals. A five-time U.S. National Rowing Team coach, White also coached the men's pair with coxswain to the gold medal at the 2003 FISA World Rowing Championships in Milan, Italy. Senior Associate AD/Mental Health
Dr. Stephany Coakley was named Senior Associate Athletic Director for Mental Health, Wellness and Performance in December, 2017. A certified mental performance consultant and licensed professional counselor with a doctorate in exercise and sport science with a concentration in sports psychology, Dr. Coakley became the first full-time mental health specialist with the Temple University Department of Athletics. Coakley, who earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Temple, returned to her alma mater with an impressive resume. Since 2003, the Nassau, Bahamas native has worked as a certified mental performance consultant with Maximum Mental Training Associates in Washington, D.C. There, Coakley coordinated mental health and wellness services for college student-athletes, as well as Olympians and professionals. Her duties included designing and coordinating mental health strength and conditioning programs for multiple and diverse sports; assessing psychological issues impacting athletes in the program; and performing robust evaluations to measure effectiveness and efficiency in order to improve and strengthen existing programs and establish new ones. In 2007, Coakley, who earned her doctorate at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, began working at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington. Clinical Nutritionist
Jacqueline Cotumaccio is a highly skilled Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with a strong foundation in applied performance nutrition, clinical counseling, and athlete-centered care. In this role, Cotumaccio addresses a wide spectrum of nutrition-related concerns through individual counseling and team talks, develops sport-and-gender-specific guidelines, hydration strategies, travel nutrition plans, and works directly with coaches, athletic trainers, medical providers, and campus dietitians. Her leadership includes managing fueling station operations, supervising interns, developing educational materials, and representing the department on initiatives such as the Food Insecurity Task Force and the Eating and Body Image Council. Cotumaccio's previous experience includes working as a Registered Dietitian at MS Nutritional Wellness in New York, where she conducted in-depth nutrition assessments and provided medical nutrition therapy to a wie age range of clients. Academic Advisor
Reid Vanderlinden joined the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes at Temple as an academic advisor for football in June of 2015. He came to the university after completing his master's degree and working in a similar role at Penn State. At Penn State, Vanderlinden served as a graduate assistant at the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, where he assisted with academic advising and counseling. He assisted the director with academic eligibility under university, Big Ten conference, and NCAA regulations, and worked as a student-enrichment and community service liaison between academic support and the football team. Vanderlinden earned a master's degree in higher education and served as a teaching assistant for two semesters at Penn State, assisting with a first-year transition seminar class. He also spent three summers working at Penn State Sport Camps. Vanderlinden is a 2013 graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a degree in political science. While at Johns Hopkins, he was a four-year letter winner for the football team, helping the Blue Jays to four-straight Centennial Conference championships.

Scott Waters, a native of the Philadelphia suburb of Wyndmoor, Pa. joined the Temple coaching staff in fall 2014 after spending the previous three seasons coaching for Bucknell University. A LaSalle High School graduate in 2007, Scott was a three-year varsity letter winner in both football and rowing. Scott would go on to row for Temple University, where he competed for three years in the Varsity 8 that was frequently ranked among the top 20 crews in the country. During his time at Bucknell, Scott coached crews to multiple medal performances in the Freshman 4+, Varsity 4+ and Freshman 8+, including an ACRA National Champion Freshman 4+ in 2013, and a Henley Royal Regatta birth in the Varsity 4+ in 2014. Since joining Temple, Scott coached the Men's Lightweight 4+ to a 2014 Dad Vail Gold and IRA Regatta Bid. Scott continues to work with the Temple Lightweight Men as well as boat rigging and equipment maintenance. Scott is a 3-time Club National Champion, winning the Senior Men’s 4- and the Senior Men’s 8+ in the summer of 2010 with a repeat win in the Senior 8+ in 2012 for Vesper Boat Club, located on Boathouse Row in Philadelphia. Scott is a 2011 graduate of Temple University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology.
