Shelby Selland

Biography

Shelby Selland enters her fifth season at South Dakota State in 2025-26. She has served as the Jackrabbits' director of operations since the 2021-22 season and is in her second season as an assistant coach. Selland, a Letcher, South Dakota native, handles all aspects of SDSU’s team operations and coordinates the Jackrabbit basketball summer camps. She also assists with post player development, opponent scouting and recruiting. In Selland's first four seasons with the Jacks, SDSU went 115-25 (.821) overall - the winningest four-year stretch in program history - with a combined seven Summit League titles. The Jackrabbits have gone unbeaten against Summit League competition in three straight seasons, made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and won a pair of First Round games (2023, 2025). The Jackrabbits won the WNIT in 2021-22. In 2024-25, South Dakota State won its fifth straight regular season Summit League title and three-peated as the conference’s postseason champion. The Jackrabbits finished the year 30-4, reaching 30 wins for the second time in the Division I era and third time overall. SDSU knocked off three ranked teams - No. 21 Creighton, No. 21 Oregon and No. 17 Oklahoma State. The Jacks’ win over the seventh-seeded OSU Cowgirls came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 74-68, to put SDSU in the second round for the second time in three years.
