Mark Ellis

Biography

Mark Ellis was named Director of High Performance / High Performance Coach – Women's Basketball at Providence College on June 25, 2025. In this role, he will oversee five full-time high performance coaches and one graduate assistant. He also will serve as the primary high performance coach for women's basketball. Ellis arrived at Providence after spending last two years at Northwestern University as Director of Olympic Sports Performance (2023-25). In his role at Northwestern, he oversaw a staff of five assistant director of sports performance coaches, while fostering a collaborative environment to maximize athlete performance. He also worked closely with a high-performance team made up of professionals in the field of nutrition, sports medicine and sports psychology. During his tenure with the Wildcats, he worked directly with the field hockey and swimming & diving programs. Each of his teams and several individual athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships. The field hockey program claimed the National Title in 2024. Prior to his stint at Northwestern, Ellis served as Assistant Sports Performance Coach at Princeton University (2021-23). At Princeton, Ellis worked directly with the men's lacrosse, men's swimming & diving, men's soccer and women's tennis teams. He was responsible for evaluating individual athlete's abilities, needs and physical condition and he developed training programs to meet the demands and requirements for each sport.
