Dave DeMello

Biography

David DeMello, who has played an integral part in Providence College’s resurgence, enters his 24th season as the Friars’ assistant coach. DeMello has helped the Friars to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances in his career at Providence, including eight out of the last 14 years. In 2024, he assisted the Friars to their 12th NCAA Tournament appearance where they reached the Second Round. DeMello helped the squad to reach the BIG EAST Championship game and earn the title of BIG EAST East Division Regular Season Co-Champions. He also helped the team to 13 victories. In 2022, DeMello helped steer the squad to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the fourth time in program history. He also helped coach the Friars to their 15th BIG EAST Semifinal and sixth BIG EAST Championship Game appearance. DeMello assisted the team to a 12-5-4 overall record including a 5-2-3 mark in BIG EAST play. In 2019, DeMello assisted the Friars to reach the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament and the BIG EAST tournament final. He helped the program grab 16 wins, which tied the Providence College men's soccer record of wins in a season. The last time this was done was in 2014. In 2016, DeMello helped the Friars capture their first BIG EAST regular season championship and also assisted them in the run to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in three years.
