Providence College Men's Cross Country

Catarina Braz-Rocha embarks on her fifth cross country season and fifth year on the coaching staff at Providence College. On June 3, 2021, Braz-Rocha was named the Providence College Women’s Head Track Coach, as well as an assistant for both the men’s and women’s cross country programs. During her first year on the coaching staff in 2021, Rocha helped the women’s cross country team qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2017. Rocha also has helped the women's cross country team qualify for the 2022 NCAA Championship. She was instrumental in coaching the 2022 BIG EAST Cross Country Individual Champion, Jane Buckley. In 2023 with Rocha’s support, the Friars had a record breaking first-place finish in the 4x1500-meter relay at Penn Relays. The program had a successful 2023-2024 season, beginning with another qualification for the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championships. Rocha assisted in coaching the DMR team (May, Flockhart, O’Neill, Fenerty) that placed sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In the 2024 outdoor season, Kimberley May and Shannon Flockhart represented Providence at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meters with a second-place finish from May and a sixth-place finish from Flockhart. Rocha has helped coach the program to eight BIG EAST Individual Champions in indoor and outdoor track and 12 All-American Honors. The 2024-25 season was another standout year for the Friars. Father Kilanowski Humbert began at Providence College in July 2018. He is a Dominican Friar and priest, as well as an associate professor of mathematics, assistant to the chaplains at campus ministry, and serves as the chaplain of the cross-country team. Father Kilanowski came to PC as his first assignment after being ordained as a priest. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a bachelor’s degree in astronomy, and an master’s degree in Mathematics from The Ohio State University. He also received a PhD in mathematics from the Dominican House of Studies as well as a bachelor of sacred theology and master of divinity and licentiate in sacred theology. Father Kilanowski enjoys running and came in 7th of last year’s Friars 5k and has also qualified to run the Boston Marathon. Father Kilanowski has served on the Core Curriculum Committee and was just granted tenure. Father Kilanowski was born in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Darien, Conn.

One of the nation’s most successful coaches, Ray Treacy is currently in his 41st season as Director of Cross Country and Track at Providence College. In his 41 years at Providence, Treacy has coached 73 student-athletes, who have received a total of 223 All-America accolades, 10 NCAA individual champions, who have captured 15 NCAA titles overall, 55 BIG EAST individual champions, who have captured 145 BIG EAST titles, and 11 Olympians. Under his guidance, his women’s teams have captured two NCAA Cross Country Championships (1995 and 2013), 16 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, eight BIG EAST Cross Country titles and 12 New England Cross Country Championships. Additionally, his men’s squads have won 10 BIG EAST Cross Country titles, five NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships and 12 New England Cross Country Championships. His squads have had 10 podium finishes (top four) at NCAA Championships. Treacy’s road to success began as a student-athlete at Providence College. The brother of 1984 Olympic silver medalist, John Treacy `78, Ray’s collegiate list of accomplishments and accolades is lengthy. He was the Friar team captain during his junior and senior seasons and collected Cross Country All-America honors on three occasions. He was a two-time New England Cross Country Champion and won the indoor 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships three times. Sinead Delahunty Evans enters her second season at her alma mater as an assistant coach of the women’s cross-country and track and field teams. She joined Ray Treacy’s staff after a year as an assistant coach at Boston College, where she was responsible for coaching the women’s middle-distance athletes and helping recruit top level NCAA talent. Delahunty Evans’ first season in 2024-25 saw lots of success for the Friars. In the fall, the women's cross country team qualified for the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship and placed third overall, the program's seventh top-three finish all-time and its best result since winning the national title in 2013. Delahunty Evans was instrumental in assisting seven BIG EAST Champions throughout the season. The women’s DMR team (Flockhart, Fenerty, O’Neill, May) finished third at the NCAA Indoor Championships after winning the BIG EAST title for the second year in a row. At the 2025 Penn Relays, the Friars won the 4x1,500 Championship of America in a program record time of 16:59.65, the third-fastest time in collegiate history. Four Friars qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the program’s highest total since 1998. May led the way with a First Team All-America finish in the 1,500 meters (6th), while Millard (5,000 meters) and O’Neill (800 meters) were named Second Team All-Americans.
