Ohio Northern University Wrestling

Ron Beaschler is in his 37th season as head wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2023-24 after taking over the reins during the 1988-89 campaign. He had previously served as an assistant from 1986-88. He also serves as the assistant athletics director for complaince since Aug. of 2022. Beaschler is also an assistant professor in the Human Performance and Sport Sciences department and coordinates the sport management program at Ohio Northern. In his 36 seasons, the ONU wrestling program has posted a 391-257-4 overall record and an 105-42 conference mark, making him the all-time winningest coach in program history. He is also the longest-tenured head wrestling coach at Ohio Northern. During his coaching career, Beaschler has coached five national champions, three national runners-up, 35 All-Americans, 91 Scholar All-Americans, and 17 Scholar All-American Teams. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Hall of Fame in 2008. He has been named OAC Coach of the Year in 1993, 2012 and 2013. Beaschler has served as the NCAA wrestling secretary rules editor and has served as the Weight Management Program liaison to the NCAA Wrestling Committee. Adam Myers is in his first season as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2025-26. Adam is a former ONU wrestler with a career 90-45 record, he is 29th in program history with his 90 wins. He finished his career with 21 falls, 18 tech, 13 major decisions. Myers is in Claude W. Pettit College of Law at ONU in 2026.

Dylan Le is in his first season as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2025-26. Dylan is a former ONU wrestler with a career 114-60 record, he is 11th in program history with his 114 wins. He finished his career with 17 falls, 16 tech, 29 major decisions. Le is in his 5th year at ONU's pharmacy program in 2026.

Gavin Layman is in his first season eason as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2025-26. Gavin is a former ONU wrestler with a career 125-51 record, he is 7th in program history with his 125 wins. He is a three-time NCAA III Championships participant. He finished his career with 28 falls, 10 tech, 13 major decisions. Layman recieved his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Ohio Northern in 2025.

Jadon Brownlee is in his first season as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2025-26. Jadon is a former ONU wrestler with a career 93-66 record, he is 28th in program history with his 93 wins. He finished his career with 40 falls, 12 tech, 8 major decisions. Brownlee graduated with a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering in 2025.

Kyle Kwiat is in his 12th season as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2024-25. Kwiat is the most decorated wrestler in program history, being the only two-time NCAA Division III Champion and four-time All-American in school history. He also tops ONU’s all-time career wins list with a 158-16 overall record and ranks second in career winning percentage at .908. During his athletic career, he led the nation in tech falls with 15 in 2012-13 and with 25 in 2013-14. Kwiat received his bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from Ohio Northern in 2013 and earned his master’s degree from Bluffton in 2016. He is married to the former Alison Steinbruner (PharmD ’15) and they have two daughters, Tessa and Evelyn, and a son, James.

Sam Sherrer is in his first season as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern in 2025-26. Sam is a former Oklahoma State wrestler, he wrestled all 4 years for the Cowboys. Sherrer received his bachelor’s degree in Pre Law from Oklahoma State in 2024 and is currently enrolled in the Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 2026.

Schuyler Caprella is entering his second season as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern. During his fifth-year senior season at ONU in 2021-22, Caprella posted a record of 36-14 with six falls, 12 technical falls and three major decisions. He won the 157-pound weight class championship at the Adrian (Mich.) Regionals and was an NCAA Championships qualifier. Caprella closed his ONU career with an overall record of 115-67. His 115 wins marks the eighth-most victories in program history.
