Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach
Jason Maus enters his 17th year as the head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Ohio Northern in 2025-26. In 16 years at ONU, he has guided the men’s cross country team to a 1,611-426 record, a .791 win percentage, and four Ohio Athletic Conference crowns, while the women’s cross country team has compiled a 1,401-530 record, a .726 win percentage, and three OAC titles. He is the all-time winningest coach at ONU for men's and women's cross country. During the 2024 season, the men's program posted a 135-39 overall record, and the women's program posted an overall record of 129-36. The men's cross country team had four All-OAC finishers and two All-Great Lakes Region finishers in 2024. The women's cross country team had four All-OAC finishers and sophomore AnnaSophia Gower earned All-Great Lakes Region honors for the second year in a row. In 2022, Tessa Pitcovich qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships and earned the NCAA Elite 90 Award. Pitcovich also qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2019 and 2021. She earned the NCAA Elite 90 award and was named Division III All-Ohio Female Runner of the Year and was a selection for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and All-District 7 First Team in 2021. Maus and his coaching staff were named the OAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2010 and 2011 and the OAC Men's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach
Molly (Cummings) Amidon is in her ninth season as an assistant track and field coach for Ohio Northern in 2025-26, focusing on the sprint and hurdle events. In her time at ONU, she has coached six athletes and four relay teams to NCAA Championships bids and had athletes break 25 school records. Her athletes have also won 12 OAC titles, had 41 All-Great Lakes Region honors and posted 68 All-OAC accolades in the sprints and hurdles. She was named the OAC and Great Lakes Men's Assistant Coach of the Year both Indoors and Outdoors in 2024 and Outdoors in 2023. Amidon has guided Jordan Dean to three All-America honors in the 400 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships and saw the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams qualify for each of the outdoor national meets in 2023 and 2024. Amidon joined the Polar Bears after a three-year stint as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Marian (Ind.) University. While there, she coached hurdles and was responsible for the fall training of all sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers. During her three seasons at Marian, Amidon guided Taylor Killings to two national championship titles in the indoor 60-meter hurdles and one national championship in the outdoor 110-meter hurdles. She helped 18 other student-athletes qualify for national championship meets in the sprints, hurdles, javelin and combined events with 15 of those student-athletes breaking Marian school records. Volunteer Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach
Tessa (Pitcovich) McVey is entering her third year coaching at Ohio Northern as a volunteer assistant coach and is working with the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams. She joins the ONU coaching ranks following a standout career on the Polar Bear cross country and track and field teams. Her 2022-23 season was highlighted by her qualification for the NCAA Championships in cross country and outdoor track and field, winning the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the indoor 3,000 meters, and earning both the NCAA Elite 90 and Clyde Lamb awards. A three-time national qualifier in cross country, McVey is just the second student-athlete in ONU history to win the Elite 90 Award twice. She is a four-time All-OAC and three-time All-Great Lakes Region honoree in cross country and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Cross Country and Track and Field Second Team for the 2021-22 season. In track and field, McVey claimed five USTFCCCA All-Region accolades and eight All-OAC honors and is a two-time NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifier in the 10,000-meter run. A seven-time Academic All-OAC, five-time USTFCCCA All-Academic and two-time OAC Scholar Athlete of the Month honoree across both sports, McVey owns several top-10 marks in the ONU record books.
