Offensive Line Coach
Bill Durkin helped Liberty to unprecedented heights during his first season on the Mountain at Co-Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach in 2023. Liberty entered bowl season with a perfect 13-0 record and was one of four undefeated teams in the country, joining Florida State, Washington and eventual national champion Michigan. Durkin helped the Flames to an unblemished 8-0 regular season record in Conference USA and a 49-35 win over New Mexico State in the CUSA Football Championship game. The team’s success positioned the Flames to receive their first-ever invitation to play in a New Year’s Six bowl game. Liberty squared off against No. 8 Oregon in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on January 1 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The Flames’ spread option offense allowed Liberty to finish the 2023 season ranked No. 1 in the country in rushing, averaging 293.3 yards per game. Liberty finished the year rushing for a program-record 4,106 yards and 39 touchdowns. Additionally, Liberty ranked No. 1 in tackles for a loss allowed (2.64 per game), No. 2 in sacks allowed (0.64 per game), No. 2 in passing yards per completion (16.19), No. 3 in winning percentage (92.9), No. 4 in total offense (499.1 yards per game), No. 4 in first down offense (348), No. 8 in time of possession (33:04) and No. 9 scoring offense (38.3 points per game). Durkin saw four of his five starting offensive linemen in 2023 earn CUSA All-Conference honors. X’Zauvea Gadlin was a first-team all-conference selection,

Director of Athletic Performance for Football
Chad Scott has spent the last four years building the Coastal Carolina football program into one of the top Group of Five teams in the country. During the last three seasons in Conway, Scott helped the Chanticleers have posted a 31-7 record, had a top-25 ranked offense and defense and made three-straight bowl game appearances. Following a record-setting championship season for the football team in 2020, Scott was named the 2020 Football Scoop Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year presented by AstroTurf as selected by prior winners. Scott came to Coastal Carolina in February 2019 after six years at Charleston Southern as the assistant athletic director for student-athlete development and the head strength and conditioning coach. Scott, who had an important role in the development and implantation of the new Charleston Southern Athletic Performance Meeting Center, is in charge of the speed, strength and conditioning for the Chanticleers' football program. While at CSU, Scott implemented and oversaw the strength and conditioning program for all 14 varsity teams, working closely with all programs and helping the Bucs win several Big South Conference championships including the 2012-13 and 2014-15 men's basketball titles, the 2014 softball championship, the 2015 women's tennis crown, the 2015 men's golf champion, and the 2015 and 2016 football championships. Defensive Pass Game Coordinator/Safeties Coach
Cory Peoples comes to Liberty after spending the 2024 and 2025 seasons at Georgia Tech as a Defensive Backs coach. During his time at Georgia Tech, Peoples helped the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back bowl game appearances (2024 – Birmingham Bowl; 2025 – Pop-Tarts Bowl). This past season, Georgia Tech posted a 9-4 record and finished the year ranked No. 24 in the final US LBM Coaches Poll. This marked the first time in 11 years that the Yellow Jackets have finished the season in the nation’s top 25. Georgia Tech’s nine-win season in 2025 was tied for the 10th-most victories in program history. The team rose to as high as No. 7 in the national rankings in Weeks 9 and 10. Georgia Tech was ranked in the final 14 national polls of the season, which is its longest same-season streak since the Jackets were ranked in all 16 polls in 1999. Georgia Tech was also 6-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, which was good for a tie for second place in the 17-team conference. The Yellow Jackets are the only ACC team that has finished in the top four of the conference standings each of the last three seasons. In Peoples’ first season at Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets finished sixth in the ACC in passing defense (220.7 yards per game), which was tied for their second-best showing in 12 seasons. Peoples’ secondary also played a big role in the Jackets ranking sixth in the ACC in rushing defense (122.2 yards per game), as five of the team’s top seven tacklers were defensive backs. Peoples came to

Liberty’s defense proved to be very opportunistic during the 2023 season as the Flames led the nation with 21 total interceptions and ranked No. 9 in the country in turnovers gained (25). Each turnover resulted in a viral celebration with the player who recorded the turnover wearing the famed Liberty Flames’ Joker mask while celebrating with his teammates and coaches on the sidelines. The Flames returned two of their national-leading 21 interceptions for a touchdown in 2023, allowing Liberty to rank No. 29 nationally in defensive touchdowns scored (2). While Liberty’s offense led the country in rushing offense (293.3 yards per game), the Flames’ defensive counterparts were just as tough against the run. Defensive Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach
Shawn Quinn, a seasoned veteran on the defensive side of the field, was named Liberty’s new Defensive Coordinator and Outside Linebackers Coach on January 3, 2026. Quinn joins the Flames’ coaching staff following four seasons at Virginia Tech. His near three decade coaching career includes stops at LSU, Tennessee, Georgia Southern, Louisiana and three seasons as the head coach at Savannah State. His coaching stops have allowed Quinn to coach in six bowl games and work with NFL standouts like 11-time Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten and first round draft pick defensive end Tyson Jackson. Quinn is no stranger to the Defensive Coordinator position, having held the same role at Savannah State (2018-21), Tennessee Tech (2016), Western Carolina (2013-15), Charleston Southern (2012) and Northwestern State (2009). During his time at Virginia Tech, Quinn coached the SAM linebacker/Nickels position in 2022, the Stars/Nickels position in 2023-24 and the Outside Linebacker position in 2025. During the 2024 season, Quinn coached Star Keonta Jenkins, who finished the season with 65 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and an interception. The standout year allowed Jenkins to sign as a free agent with the Buffalo Bills for the 2025 season. Prior to his coaching stop in Blacksburg, Quinn spent four years at Savannah State, including three seasons as the Tigers’ head coach (2019-21). As head coach, Quinn guided Savannah State to a 16-6 record, helping the program trans
