Gustavus Adolphus College Men's Ice Hockey

Tyler Walsh was named head coach of the Gustavus men's hockey program in the spring of 2024 and is the 20th head coach in the history of the program, but just the fourth in the past 60 years. In his first year, Walsh guided the program to the MIAC regular season championship, MIAC playoff championship, NCAA tournament appearance, and was named MIAC Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year. The season record of 16-10-2 (10-4-2 MIAC) marked the program's first season above .500 in 10 years. Five Gusties were named All-Conference, and the program finished #19 in both NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey national polls. Walsh came to Gustavus after serving as the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator for six years at Colby College (Maine), a Division III team in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. While at Colby, Walsh helped direct the Mules to the NESCAC playoffs in five of six seasons and recruited three All-America selections. After capturing the 2022 NESCAC regular season championship, Walsh and the Colby coaches were named Men's Ice Hockey Staff of the Year by the conference. Walsh got his start in coaching as a student assistant at the University of Maine in 2011 and then at Canisius College (N.Y.) as the director of hockey operations for one season. Ethan Schwartz is in his first season as the assistant men's hockey coach alongside first-year head coach Tyler Walsh in the 2024-25 academic year. Schwartz joined the program with Walsh in the summer of 2024. A graduate of the University of Maine, Schwartz comes to Gustavus after serving as a student assistant for the Maine men's hockey team for three years. While at Maine, Schwartz managed film, updated statistics, and scouted opposing teams and prospective players. He is also the 18U assistant coach for Boston Hockey Academy, a role he has held since the summer of 2023. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Schwartz played three years of junior hockey in the WSHL, EHL, and USPHL leagues.
