Billy Colbert joined GW in August 2025 as an Assistant Coach following an extensive career in the youth rowing community. Colbert most recently wa the head coach of Oklahoma City Riversport where he directed the athletic and cultural development of the women's program at all age levels from eighth grade through high school. He previously served as the program's U17 head coach for one year. Colbert also spent four years as the freshmen boys rowing coach at Saratoga Rowing Association in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and two years as the lead novice rowing coach at Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburgh, Pa. Colbert returns to the DMV where he graduated Magna Cum Laude from George Mason Unviersity in 2017 with a degree in Management. He served as captain of the Varsity Men's Rowing team during his time in Fairfax.

Prior to her time in Des Moines, Roney competed for Miami (FL) and Washington State during her undergraduate career. While with the Hurricanes, Roney rowed the V4, 3V8 and 2V4 boats against Atlantic Coast Conference competition. She began her career from 2019-21 at Washington State while she was also active on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Temecula, Calif., native was a member of the rowing, dance, football, softball and track & field programs in high school.

She is currently responsible for providing coordination and logistical support for the rowing team and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Forensic Psychology program at GW and working towards her American Sign Language Interpreter certification. Benedict recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Cognitive Science, where she rowed for four years. Benedict was awarded the UVA rowing team MVP twice and represented the USA at the U-23 World Rowing Championship in both 2022 and 2023. Lauren brings a unique balance of academic and athletic passions to bear in all she does.
