Cole Barnhill was hired as an Assistant Director of Media Relations in August 2022. Barnhill oversees media relations for the Pirates women's basketball, soccer, lacrosse, cross country and track & field programs. A 2020 graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Barnhill spent the 2021-22 school year at Radford University where he worked with women's lacrosse and cross country and track & field, as well as serving as the secondary contact for women's basketball. The Durham, N.C. native majored in English and Political Science while at UNC, getting his entry into athletics communications as a junior working primarily with women's soccer and track & field. In his role as a student assistant he had the opportunity to staff the 2018 Women's College Cup with women's soccer and the 2019 ACC Outdoor Championships, NCAA East Prelims and NCAA Championships with the UNC track & field team.

Courtney Smith was hired as an assistant athletic trainer at East Carolina University in April 2021 and works primarily with Soccer program. Prior to joining the Pirates, Smith served as an assistant athletic trainer working predominantly with the Appalachian State Women's Basketball team. Smith earned her master's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine from UNCG in May 2020 while also working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Spartans. She was responsible for working with the men's soccer, co-ed cheer and dance teams. Smith also served as a certified athletic training intern at Cleveland State University before heading to UNCG. At Cleveland State, Smith worked primarily with the women's soccer squad. Prior to earning her master's degree from UNCG, Smith earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training at West Virginia in 2017. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association (MAATA).
