Paul Savell enters his fourth year as the Director of Rowing for both the men's and women's rowing teams. In 2025, he resumed his role as Head Coach of the Drexel women's rowing team, where he is set to begin his 19th season. Since joining Drexel in 2007, Savell has led the Dragons to unprecedented national success at some of the most prestigious regattas in collegiate rowing, including the Henley Women's Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta and Dad Vail Regatta. In July of 2007, Savell was named the Drexel Director of Rowing after serving as the head crew coach at Lehigh for nine seasons. Savell was instrumental in the development of the Mountain Hawks' program from a team of 30 to more than 100 members. Prior to Lehigh, Savell coached at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, N.J. for four seasons, and worked as the men's novice coach at Georgia Tech. Savell is also an accomplished rower. He starred at Holy Spirit in High School before attending the University of Wisconsin, where he rowed stroke in the varsity eight for two seasons. He also captured a National Championship at the IRAs in the straight four and earned a bronze medal in varsity four at the IRAs. Savell graduated from Wisconsin with a degree in engineering and earned his master's degree in business administration from Lehigh in 2001. Savell resides in Haddon Township, N.J. with his wife, Janet, and their three sons, Jack, Joe and Brendan.

Prior to joining the Dragons, Carlson served as the Assistant Program Director and Coach at the Wilmington Youth Rowing Association, where she managed digital communications, coordinated events, and supported program operations. Carlson was named to the All-CAA Team as a member of the Blue Hens, guiding them to a program-best third place finish overall at the 2025 CAA Championships. She was also recognized as Temple Women's Rowing Teammate of the Year and named a CRCA Scholar-Athlete in 2024. Carlson earned her bachelor's degree in public health from Temple University in 2024 and a master's degree in hospitality and sport business analytics from the University of Delaware in 2025.

Assistant Women's Rowing Coach

Karsen Healy was named a women's rowing assistant coach in October, 2023 and will help out with all aspects of the program. She comes to the Dragons with experience on the water as well as in strength and conditioning. Most recently she was a strength and conditioning coach at Urban Athlete in Philadelphia where she led small group training and personal fitness sessions. She also worked with the Conshohocken Rowing Club coaching junior and novice level rowers in summer programs. Prior to coming to Philadelphia, Healy spent time as an assistant strength coach at Phillips Exeter Academy and as a strength intern at Boston University. The Wyndmoor native spent four years as a member of Boston University's women's lightweight rowing team. Healy placed fourth in the IRA Champion in the two seat her senior year, while she also took home silver in the three seat her junior year. She was also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll three times and once to the IRA All-Academic Team. Healy earned her bachelor's in human physiology from Boston University and a masters in exercise and sport science from Merrimack College.
