The Elizabeth C. McNabb Head Coach of Women’s Rowing
July, 2023 Mike Harrity, Dartmouth's Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation, announced on Monday that John Graves has been named The Elizabeth C. McNabb Head Coach of Women’s Rowing. Graves is no stranger to the Friends of Dartmouth Rowing boathouse, as he has served as an assistant coach for the Big Green's top-10 nationally ranked men's heavyweight rowing team for the past two seasons and served on the staff of the Texas NCAA national champion women's rowing program in 2021. "John distinguished himself during our national search to become the next leader of Dartmouth women's rowing," Harrity said. "He has demonstrated excellence both as an athlete and a coach throughout his career. John's coaching approach is informed by his passion for the science of rowing combined with his rare ability to connect with and make the people around him better. We are excited to support John's vision for elevating the Dartmouth women's rowing program." Graves has extensive experience in collegiate women's rowing. Prior to Dartmouth, he was a volunteer assistant coach on the 2020-21 University of Texas Women's Rowing staff that was named CRCA Staff of the Year, as the Longhorns won the 2021 NCAA Championship. Eileen Russell begins her first season as assistant coach during the 2025-26 season. Russell joins Dartmouth from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. When coaching the Ephs, Russell helped lead the Williams rowing team to four straight NCAA Championship appearances. Under her leadership, the Ephs notched two fifth-place finishes, one third-place finish and one second-place finish. Russell helped lead the experienced rowers, but also dedicated her time to instruct walk-on athletes how to row with little to no rowing experience. In addition, she managed all travel logistics, organized meals and oversaw the budget of the team. “I am so excited to be joining the staff at Dartmouth Rowing,” said Russell. “All of my conversations with Coach Graves and members of the team have demonstrated that DWR is a community of people with lofty goals and the drive to go after them. I’m thrilled to be joining a program that will support my professional mission of developing student-athletes to their highest potential on the water and in the classroom.” Before coaching at Williams, Russell was a four-year student athlete on the rowing team for the Ephs. She earned her bachelor’s in classical languages while raking up accolades on the water. In her first year on the team, the Ephs won the women’s collegiate eight at the Head of the Charles and the women’s varsity eight at the NESCAC/NIRC. Her sophomore year, the team won the NCAA Tournament in the women’s varsity eight and Russell was named C

Those performances were key in helping Washington win the 2025 Big 10 Team Championship and earn a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA National Championship. "I am honored to join the Dartmouth women's rowing program and grateful to John Graves and the Dartmouth leadership for believing in me," said Getsinger. "I am excited to work alongside an extraordinary coaching staff and with the talented women of Dartmouth Rowing. My wife, Carly and I could not be more thrilled to raise our three daughters here in the Upper Valley and become part of this incredible community." Before Washington, Getsinger made his mark on the national scene as head coach of the junior women at Saugatuck Rowing Club. From 2014 to 2019, Getsinger's crews enjoyed an impressive string of success winning the youth women's eight at the Head of the Charles and Youth National Championships five consecutive years. Under
