Head Coach
Amanda Butler was named the ninth head coach in program history and eighth in the Division I era on March 31, 2026. “When looking for the next leader of our Women’s Basketball program, we wanted to pursue a proven winner, a person with a passion for developing student leaders and someone who embraces the modern-day landscape of college athletics. Amanda Butler is that person,” said Roberts. “Amanda has an enthusiasm for the College of Charleston and the Charleston community. She will work diligently to build upon our recent success and continue our programs ascent as one of the top mid-major women’s basketball programs in the country.” Butler comes to Charleston after two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville where she helped lead the Cardinals to two straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance this year. Louisville went 51-19 during her two years on staff. “College of Charleston is a dream job of mine. Opportunities like this one don’t come often and I’m honored to be the choice to lead such an elite group,” said Butler. “I’m grateful for President Hsu, Matt Roberts, Kate Tiller and their outstanding staffs for having confidence in me. My family is beyond excited to join the Cougar Family and the Charleston community. Assistant Coach
Rhodes will stay in Charleston and begin her second year as an assistant coach with the Cougars for the 2026-27 season. “Chelsey is a high character, hard working person,” said Butler. “She has a heart for our players and for the College of Charleston. She very quickly sold me on her desire to be a part of our staff and an ability to get things done. She has been an essential part of my transition into leading the program. Please help me re-welcome Chelsey to The College.” Rhodes helped take the Cougars to new heights during the 2025-26 season as the Cougars won two conference titles and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Before winning the 2026 CAA Tournament, the Cougars went 16-2 in CAA play and won the 2025-26 CAA Regular Season Championship by three games. She helped guide four Cougars to Coastal Athletic Association postseason honors for the 2025-26 season. Charleston won three major awards as Taryn Barbot earned the CAA Player of the Year award for the second year in a row, Grace Ezebilo garnered the Defensive Player of the Year award and Head Coach Robin Harmony was named the CAA Coach of the Year. James Hanson
James Hanson joined the College of Charleston as the Assistant Director of Communications and Creative Content in October 2025. In his role, Hanson serves as the primary contact for the Cougars' women's basketball, men's soccer and the men's and women's tennis programs. Prior to Charleston, Hanson spent two years as the Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. In this role, he was the primary contact for the Waves men's and women's golf, water polo, swim & dive and beach volleyball programs. Hanson was also the primary statistician for all home contests and held roles in many high-profile events. He was the host communications coordinator for the 2025 MPSF Men's Volleyball Tournament and the 2023 WCC Men's Water Polo Tournament. Hanson was also the media operations coordinator at the 2024 Men's NCAA March Madness West Regional. During his undergraduate studies, Hanson was a manager for the Pepperdine men's basketball team and an athletic communications student worker. A native of Sherwood, Ore., Hanson graduated magna cum laude from Pepperdine in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in sport administration before earning a master's degree in organizational leadership and learning in 2025.

Kaitlyn Frutiger
Kaitlyn joined the MUSC Health Sports Medicine team in the summer of 2025 and works with women's basketball and sailing at Charleston. Originally from Minnesota, Kaitlyn attended Luther College in Iowa where she earned her bachelor's degree in allied health and a minor in biology. While at Luther she was also a member of the women's basketball team. She then attended Eastern Kentucky University for her master's degree in athletic training, and did her immersion at Ole Miss. Before working at the College of Charleston she was at West Virginia University as the athletic trainer for the cross-country and track & field teams. Outside of work, Kaitlyn enjoys attending to various sporting events, hiking, going to the beach, and painting.

Kristina MacLure
Kristina MacLure joined the College of Charleston Athletic Department in September 2025. MacLure works with women's basketball, women's soccer, track and field cross country programs at Charleston. Prior to Charleston, MacLure was at the University of Virginia as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and worked primarily with the men and women's track and field and cross-country teams. During this time, the women's track and field team won the ACC conference championship, 35 athletes qualified for East Regionals, and 11 qualified for Nationals. Before UVA, she was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Lander University where she worked with women's basketball, volleyball, field hockey, acrobatics and tumbling, men and women's golf, men and women's track and field and cross country, and women's tennis teams. MacLure grew up in Stow, Massachusetts, and earned a Bachelors in Kinesiology and a bachelor's in communications at the University of Rhode Island. At URI she competed as a track and field athlete, earning All-American Honors in 2019 and 2021, two-time East Regional Qualifier, 5-time school record holder, and team co-captain those two seasons. She earned her master's degree in Exercise Science from Merrimack College in 2022 and earned her MBA from Lander University in 2024. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the NSCA and is CPR/AED/First Aid Certified.
