Sam Katon

Biography

Sam Katon was hired as an Assistant Track & Field Coach at Calvin University prior to the 2025-26 season to work primarily with the throwers. He brings five years of coaching experience from Manchester University, where he coached athletes to 1 first-team All-American performance, 3 second-team All-American awards, 9 NCAA Division III national qualifications, 20 individual conference championships, and contributed to six team conference championships. Previously, Katon coached three seasons at Davenport University, where he coached 1 COVID All-American and 1 NCAA Division II national qualification, among other accomplishments. As a collegiate athlete at Davenport University from 2014-18, Katon was a standout thrower who earned All-WHAC recognition in men's weight and hammer throws and qualified for the 2017 NAIA indoor and outdoor national championships. He graduated from Davenport with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management in 2018 and earned his MBA from Davenport in 2020. Katon is a native of Chelsea, Michigan, and resides in Byron Center with his wife Jenna and daughter Nora.
