He coached two athletes to three USA 1500m titles between 2009 and 2014 and was selected a USA national team assistant coach at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia. Associate Head Coach
Bastron has served as an assistant coach at Wake Forest since August 2019 before being promoted to associate head coach in 2024. In her first cross country season with the Demon Deacons, Wake Forest's women placed sixth at the ACC Championships and had two All-ACC performers, Elise Wright (14th) and Samantha Halvorsen (19th). The team then went on to finish fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship with two All-Region performers, Halvorsen (13th) and Madeline Rehm (22nd). In 2023, she coached three All-Region honorees (Brooke Wilson, Caroline Garrett, Lydia van Dijk) in addition to Brooke Wilson being named All-ACC as a true freshman. During the 2024 season, the women's cross country team continued to improve under Bastron's leadership, as she coached three All-Region honorees (Angelina Perez, Brooke Wilson, Elizabeth Whaley). In addition, freshman Angelina Perez earned All-ACC honors in her debut season while Brooke Wilson added her second-consecutive honor. She has helped the Deacs accomplish multiple top 10 marks in program history in track & field since her arrival, including the program records in the indoor mile, indoor 3K, indoor DMR, indoor long jump, outdoor 800m, outdoor 1500m, and outdoor 10K. During the 2020 indoor season, the women's team placed 11th as a team at the ACC Indoor Championships, tying their highest finish since 2009. Assistant Coach
Hazouri joined Wake Forest in July 2021, since then 16 Demon Deacons brought home All-ACC honors, led by ACC Outdoor Champion Thomas Vanoppen (1500m). Five Wake Forest athletes advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships: Anna Bush (heptathlon), Emma Soderstrom (high jump), Zach Facioni (5000m), Tony Jones (high jump) and Vanoppen (1500m). Vanoppen is the first Wake Forest outdoor All-American since Robert Heppenstall in 2018 and the first 1500-meter All-American since Kyle Graves in 2015, second 1500-meter All-American in school history. He has helped the men's cross country team grab three top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including a fifth-place finish in 2022. Additionally, he led the squad to the 2022 & 2025 ACC Championships. He has also coached five All-Americans in cross country so far during his tenure. As the lead recruiting coordinator for men's cross country, Hazouri has brought in the No. 7 class in 2022, No. 4 class in 2023 and No. 3 class in 2024. As an event coach for track & field, he helped Rynard Swanepoel break the program record in the 800m (1:45.28) for outdoors as well as the third-best time indoors. Swanepoel has been ACC runner-up twice in the event as well as a two-time All-American. Assistant Coach
A former Wake Forest student-athlete, LePino has spent that last two seasons as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro. As a Demon Deacon, LePino concluded his career as a five-time ACC qualifier between the three seasons. He wrapped up his career as part of the 2021 Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship team and assisted Wake Forest to a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. Outside of being a student-athlete, LePino facilitated team training accommodations in Flagstaff, Arizona during the summers of 2019-21. LePino was a volunteer with Project HOPE and STRIVE service trips during his time at Wake Forest. With STRIVE, he traveled to Iten, Kenya during the summer of 2016 and 2017 organizing lesson plans, aiding in the construction of school necessities, and assisting in guiding students through the common application process. LePino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Wake Forest in December 2021.
