Vermont State University Castleton Men's Golf

Mike Hathorn enters his second season as the head coach of the men's golf team after being elevated in the Summer of 2025. Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Hathorn had been involved with the Hartford High School varsity golf team for 26 years, serving as co-head coach from 1996 to 2014 and head coach through 2022. Under his leadership, the Hurricanes captured the 2019 Vermont State Championship. In addition to golf, he currently coaches the Hartford JV baseball team and has been an assistant coach since 2022. When Hathorn is not coaching, he teaches technology and history at Hartford High School, where he has created unique course offerings including 3D modeling and printing, Digital Research and Design, and Technology Design and Innovation. He previously taught online social studies through the Vermont Virtual Learning Cooperative and taught middle school social studies and humanities at Hartford Memorial Middle School, where he also coached football, basketball, and golf. A lifelong golfer, Hathorn's passion for the game was sparked at age 10 when he met legendary Dartmouth golf coach Bill Johnson, who became both a mentor and inspiration. He began his own coaching journey while still in college, assisting Johnson with PE golf classes at Dartmouth and working summers at Hanover Country Club, where he ran tournaments and supported operations in the pro shop.
