Aoki joined Richmond in June 2023, bringing more than 20 years of head coaching experience and over 500 career wins to the Spiders. Aoki led the Spiders to a 27-32 record and 13-11 conference record in his first season at the helm of the program in 2024. UR clinched an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship tournament berth and as the four seed made it to the Championship Finals, going 3-2, suffering both losses to crosstown rival VCU. In the team’s three postseason victories, the squad defeated George Washington 12-4, top-seeded Saint Louis 13-10, and Saint Joseph’s 14-6. Against Atlantic 10 opponents, the Spiders won four series in 2024, including a series sweep of George Washington at Pitt Field, and captured a victory against every A-10 opponent avoiding being swept. In the second game against George Mason, the Spiders came back from a 15-run deficit to collect a 17-16 extra innings walk off victory. Spider starting pitcher Kyle Roche finished the season allowing just four walks, two during the regular season and two in the A-10 Tournament in 86.2 total innings on the hill. Roche led the nation averaging 18.0 strikeouts to every walk surrendered and 0.42 walks allowed per nine innings pitched. Six different Spiders collected hardware in 2024. Brian Reinke (pitcher), Aidan O’Keefe (rookie) and Aaron Whitley (player) all collected weekly A-10 regular season honors. Collin Radack enters his eighth season as an assistant coach in 2025. He joined the Spiders after three seasons in the minors as an outfielder in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, and spent the 2017 season at his alma mater, Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Radack is the primary hitting coach for Spider Baseball, and works with the outfielders. He facilitates nationally recognized Spider Baseball Camps, one of college baseball's most well-known camp programs. For more information on Spider Baseball Camps, please click here for the chance to participate in one of the top-tier college baseball camps in the country. In 2024, Richmond batters finished in the top four among the Atlantic 10 in batting average (.287), doubles (108), hits (574), home runs (68), runs (398), and slugging percentage (.450). 2024 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Whitley paced the team with 18 stolen bases and 10 home runs, while Phil Bernstein legged out 17 doubles. Bernstein collected A-10 All-Academic and Jewish Baseball News All-America team honors, while Whitley and Aidan O'Keefe picked up A-10 Weekly Player and Rookie accolades. The 2023 squad led the league for a second-straight season with a .309 team average and 136 doubles and sat in second with 579 hits. The squad was also third in .483 slugging and .401 on-base percentages and fourth with 385 runs batted in while hitting into the second fewest double-plays (25) and second fewest strikeouts (366).
