Ron Woodard enters his third season on the UNC Asheville staff in 2026-27. The Bulldogs saw improvement in Woodard's second season, posting 12 wins on the season including seven in the Big South Conference to earn the No. 6 seed in the Big South Conference tournament and achieve their highest tournament seeding in five years. Woodard coached Nia Green, who was the Big South Conference Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 12 and an All-Conference Second Team selection posting a team-high 10 double-doubles. Jamaria Freeman also earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team, after being named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks to end the season. Jaidyn Koerdt was also named to the All-Academic Team, while Deborah Orianegbena was named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. The Bulldogs finished the season 17th in Division I in Offensive Rebounds per Game (15.2), 26th in the the nation in Rebounds per Game (41.1) and also leading the Big South Conference and 12th in all of Division I in three-point percentage defense, holding opponents to just 26.4 percent beyond the arc. The Bulldogs went 4-27 in Woodard's first season on staff. The Bulldogs picked up their first win at Asheville on Dec. 4 as the Bulldogs thumped Warren Wilson 98-23, before Asheville beat Brevard 79-45 on Dec. 30 for their second win.
