Mac Alexander

Biography

Mac Alexander enters his first season on Texas Tech’s coaching staff as assistant special teams coordinator and specialists coach. Alexander arrives at Texas Tech following three seasons as the associate head coach at Colorado State-Pueblo where he served as special teams coordinator as well as defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator. Alexander has a long history coaching special teams at the Division II level as well as a graduate assistant at Washington State from 2020-21. This will be his second stint in the state of Texas after previously serving as the safeties coach at Tarleton State during the 2019 season. Alexander moved from there to Washington State, then Western New Mexico in 2022 and to Colorado State-Pueblo the past three seasons. CSU Pueblo claimed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in each of Alexander’s final two seasons, combining for 20 wins during that span with two appearances in the NCAA Division II playoffs. The 2024 conference title was CSU Pueblo’s first since 2014 and was only the eighth 10-win season in program history. Alexander’s special teams units contributed to much of that success as the Thunderwolves combined for 12 blocked kicks the past two seasons alone to rank among the national leaders. He regularly fielded several of the nation’s top special teams units over his three seasons as CSU Pueblo led the country in kickoff return average (29.95) in 2023 and ranked fourth in punt return coverage (2.00) in 2024.
