Stephen Boateng

Biography

Boateng joined the Red Storm staff as a graduate assistant in May 2024. The Bronx, N.Y., native has worked under Naismith Hall of Famer Rick Pitino for the last four seasons, both at Iona (2021-23) and St. John's (2023-25). His responsibilities included providing film breakdowns for scouting reports and recruiting, assisting in team practices and supervising tasks for 20+ student managers. In Boateng’s first year as a graduate assistant, the Red Storm claimed the outright BIG EAST Regular Season title for the first time in 40 years before winning the BIG EAST Tournament and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000. The Johnnies’ 31 victories matched a school record and the Red Storm climbed as high as no. 5 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, the program’s best ranking since the 1990-91 campaign. Boateng also spent four years as a workout assistant with Black Ops, an organization headed by NBA Skills Coach Chris Brickley. He has worked with current and former NBA players, such as Donovan Mitchell, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, Paolo Banchero, Deandre Hunter and Cole Anthony. Boateng has also worked in the AAU sphere as a coach and assistant skills trainer with Team We Got Next out of Westchester since 2019. His tenure with We Got Next featured several future pros, adjusting and developing their shot and playmaking abilities.
