2025 marked the first season with Coach Angelica Terrel serving as the Gaels lead assistant coach, following the departure of Emily Montanez to Cal State Monterey Bay. In her first year in this role, the Gaels won 28 games, and were crowned WCC Champs for the second straight year. In two years on staff, Coach Terrel doesn't know anything other than championship softball, as the Gaels have won both of their WCC Titles with her on staff. Working primarily with the Gaels catchers, Saint Mary's has erased 50 attempting base stealers in the last two years, and has had a catcher on the all-conference team in both of her years on staff. Coach Terrel joined Coach Sonja Garnett’s staff for the 2023-24 season. Terrel came to Saint Mary’s from Academy of Art, just across the Bay in San Francisco, where she served as an Assistant Coach under Head Coach Nikki Gentile. Coach Terrel worked with the Gaels catchers in 2024. That group erased 14 potential base stealers, the most since 2015. SMC also saw a sharp decline in the numbers of both passed balls and wild pitches, showing the improvements of the Gaels behind the dish under Coach Terrel's leadership. Katie, a native of Orinda, CA, is in her fifth year with Saint Mary's after being hired in January 2019, and her first as Associate Athletic Trainer. She is responsible for Saint Mary’s College softball and rowing teams. Prior to Saint Mary's, Katie worked at Academy of Art University for three years. At Academy of Art, some of her main responsibilities were women’s soccer, baseball, women’s basketball as well as a wide range of administrative duties. She established the athletic program’s mental health policy as well as revising all sports medicine policies and procedures. Katie attended Oregon State University and earned a bachelors’ degree in athletic training in 2015. Afterwards she attended San Jose State University in 2017 and earned her masters’ degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in athletic training. Katie established her love for sports medicine after working closely with her high school’s athletic trainer and sports medicine program. She is a member of National Athletic Trainers’ Association and lives in Pleasant Hill with her husband.
