Rollins College Mixed Sailing

Dave Herbster, a Rollins Alum, was named Director of the Boathouse during the 2019-20 school year. Previously, he served as the head coach of the Tars' sailing program during the 2018-19 season. Under Herbster's leadership, the 2022-23 women's sailing team earned an eighth-place finish at the SAISA Women's Fleet Race Championship, one of the best finishes at the season-closing regatta in program history. Herbster grew up on the waters of Chesapeake Bay where he sailed with his family. He attended Rollins where he was a fraternity president, student court judge, assistant to the Athletic Director, and often at the Rollins boathouse. He graduated from Rollins with degrees in Business Administration, and Environmental Studies. After graduation Herbster spent a career with the State of Florida, including ten years on the water operating safely in all sorts of weather and conditions, and another seven as coordinator of watercraft safety for his district. For the past five years, he led development of his district's mentoring program. He is married to fellow Rollins Alum Janice Moore '83.
