Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach
Entering her sixth season as head coach in 2026-27, Lindsay Edmonds has elevated the Owls back to a championship-caliber program and continues to shatter coaching records, securing Rice Athletics' first-ever American Conference title in the team's debut season in the conference. Edmonds raised the expectations once again for the program during the 2025-26 season, with a program-record 29 wins en route to the American Conference regular-season championship. The Owls rode a 22-game win streak, also a program record, and reached the second round of the WBIT. Edmonds was the unanimous American Conference Coach of the Year and was a WBCA National Coach of the Year finalist. Her Owls earned numerous American Conference honors, including Victoria Flores (Player of the Year, First Team), Shelby Hayes (Most Improved Player, Third Team), Louann Battiston (Sixth Player of the Year, Newcomer Team), Hailey Adams (Ambassador Award, Defensive Team) and Dominique Ennis (First Team). Ennis also became the fourth Owl under Edmonds to reach their 1,000th career point, while breaking the school record in career three-pointers and single-season threes. The Owls boasted the nation's best free throw percentage at 81.9%, the second time in program history Rice led a national statistic. The 2024-25 season saw the Owls advancing to the AAC Championship game in back-to-back seasons. Assistant Athletic Trainer (Women's Basketball)
Azinee Rios joined the Rice University Sports Medicine Department in September 2025. She is responsible for managing the health care of the women's basketball team. Rios is a graduate of Central Michigan University where she earned a degree in Athletic Training. She received her master's degree in Sports Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The Owls capped off a historic season in 2023-24, claiming Rice Athletic's first-ever AAC title in the debut season in the conference. The Owls won four games in four days to earn Rice's fourth-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2019, where the Owls fell to then-defending national champions LSU in a hard-fought 70-60 defeat. All-Conference Third Teamer Malia Fisher was named AAC Tournament MVP while Destiny Jackson and Sussy Ngulefac were also named to the All-Tournament Team. In her first season with the Owls, Rice saw a historic start with an undefeated non-conference slate at 9-0. Assistant AD for Women's Basketball Operations
Darryln McDonough enters her fifth season with the women's basketball team, during which she was promoted to Assistant AD for Women's Basketball Operations in June 2024. McDonough began her Rice career on July 1, 2022, when she was initially hired as the Director of Operations, a role she held for two years. With the Owls, McDonough oversees the day-to-day operations for the women's basketball team in addition to team travel, apparel and daily communications. Since arriving to South Main, the Owls have seen much success, claiming the 2024 AAC Tournament title and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, the first appearance for Rice since 2019. The 2026 squad was crowned the regular season champions of the American Conference, and earned a spot in the WBIT. Prior to Rice, McDonough served as the Director of Operations last season at Western Carolina. Previously she was a graduate assistant and student manager for the Baylor Lady Bears, where she oversaw all student managers, handled inventory of athletic gear, and helped coordinate logistics for the team during game days. She was part of the 2019 National Championship team for Baylor University as a support staff member for Kim Mulkey. McDonough earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2019 and received her master's degree in sport management in May 2021, both from Baylor. McDonough is a native of Seattle, Wash.

Corcoran enters her second season as a graduate assistant with the women's basketball team. Miller dropped a career-high 29 points against UT-Arlington and finished her final season at ACU reaching double digits in 18 games. Miller played against Coach Edmonds when the Wildcats visited Tudor Fieldhouse back on Nov. 13, 2022, where she finished the game with eight points and three assists. Miller was on the WBI team in 2021 and ACU’s Southland Championship and NCAA Tournament qualifying team in 2019. Miller earned her MSSM in Sports Management in 2024 from SMU and her BSN in Convergence Journalism in 2022 from Abilene Christian.

Director of Sport Performance - Women's Basketball
Solomon Tat is in his fourth year as director of sport performance coach for women's basketball at Rice University. He was named to the position on June 2, 2021. Before accepting the position at Rice, Tat was the associate director of performance and director of training and education for the Liberty University athletics department. At Liberty, Tat supervised and managed the training efforts of three teams. He was primarily responsible for the implementation of performance training programs for men's soccer, women's basketball and volleyball. Tat, a former basketball player at Virginia, was the head performance coach for the men's basketball, cheerleading, and assistant coach for football from 2013-2015. Tat, who is from Nigeria, earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia in 2010 and a master's degree from Liberty University in 2013. He lettered four times as a member of the Cavaliers' men's basketball team and was a team co-captain for the 2009-10 season. Tat and his family reside in Houston, TX.
