Head Assistant Coach
Scott Mattingly was elevated to Head Assistant Coach in August of 2024 after joining the Bison staff as an Assistant Coach on Aug. 25, 2023. He enters his third season on staff in 2025-26. Mattingly wrapped up his 11th season as a Division I coach in 2024-25 after he came to Fargo with nine years of coaching experience. He has coached 25 NCAA DI qualifiers. In his first two seasons in Fargo, Mattingly has aided in the development of All-American Gavin Drexler in 2025, as well as blood round appearances for Gaven Sax in 2024 and Aidan Brenot in 2025. Overall, the Bison have had five national qualifiers in his first two years with the Bison program. Prior to Fargo, Mattingly spent five years at Gardner-Webb University, where he directly coached six NCAA qualifiers. After four years as an Assistant Coach, Mattingly was elevated to Associate Head Coach in his final year with GWU, and helped guide individual wrestlers to one SoCon championship, two runners-up and a third-place finish, including two NCAA qualifiers. Before Gardner-Webb, Mattingly served as an Assistant Coach at Eastern Michigan, where he had a significant impact on the program, coaching 14 NCAA DI qualifiers, including Eastern Michigan’s first All-American in 19 years in 2018. He coached five MAC individual runners-up and coached Eastern Michigan’s first conference champion in eight years in 2017. Mattingly has helped guide 16 Academic All-Americans in his coaching career and had five teams claim top 15 NWCA Academ
