After spending the 2022-23 season as a volunteer coach, Dennis Smith was elevated to a full time assistant. He played a vital role in coaching the 2024-25 squad to one of the best seasons in program history that resulted in a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, two All-Americans, a 22 win season, a new program record for most conference wins (12), and the program's second-ever ITA National Team Indoors appearance. Smith was the lead coach for the doubles team of Joe Wayand and Rafa Izquierdo Luque, guiding the duo to the ITA Regional Championship in the fall and an NCAA Doubles at-large invitation in the spring during the 2023-24 season. Under Smith’s watch, Wayand and Izquierdo Luque advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, earning All-American accolades. Smith, a Raleigh native, graduated from NC State in 2020 with a degree in business administration.
