Mike Carroll

Biography

Mike Carroll is entering his 27th season as the head women's hockey coach at Gustavus in the 2025-26 season. During his tenure behind the Gustie bench, Carroll has turned Gustavus women's hockey into one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division III. He has compiled an overall record of 535-135-48 in 26 seasons and has the most coaching victories in the history of the program. Carroll is the second winningest coach all-time in NCAA Division III women's hockey with 535 wins and a winning percentage of .745. Carroll and the 2022-23 women's hockey team won the first NCAA DIII National Championship for a team in the West Region, marking the program and the conference's first women's hockey national championship. The Gusties defeated Amherst on the road in a triple overtime thriller, 2-1, playing in the longest title game in Division III history. Carroll has directed the Gusties to 18 MIAC regular season titles and has been named the MIAC Coach-of-the-Year nine times. In addition to coaching 54 players who have earned All-Conference honors 103 times, he has coached nine MIAC Players-of-the-Year. Carroll has also worked with 20 players who have earned All-America distinction 32 times and two American Hockey Coaches Association Players-of-the-Year. Prior to coming to Gustavus, Carroll served as the head boys' hockey coach at Mankato West High School from 1991 to 1999.
