Matt Hunter

Biography

Matt Hunter was named head coach of Gettysburg College men's basketball on Sept. 30, 2025. He brings 13 years of head coaching experience from York (Pa.), where he compiled a 170-148 record (.535) across 12 seasons. At York, Hunter guided the Spartans to four NCAA tournament second-round appearances, four 20-win seasons, and multiple conference championships including two Capital Athletic Conference titles (2017-18, 2019-20) and one MAC Commonwealth championship (2024-25). He was named D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2017-18 after leading York to a No. 4 national ranking. Hunter also served four seasons as head men's golf coach at York, winning the 2013 conference championship. Prior to York, he spent four seasons as a full-time assistant at DeSales, where the Bulldogs went 84-32 and made two NCAA tournaments, and had coaching roles at The College of New Jersey, including serving as interim head coach for the 2007-08 season. Hunter is a three-time letterwinner from Salisbury University, where he graduated in 2005 with a degree in physical education and was a two-year captain.
