Head Coach
Matt McKillop, former Davidson standout and longtime assistant coach, was named the program's 19th head men's basketball coach on June 17, 2022. He succeeds his father, Bob McKillop, who announced his retirement after 33 years on the Wildcats' bench. Promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2016-17 season, McKillop joined the staff in 2008 and has been involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, scheduling, editing video for scouting and teaching purposes, analytics and community involvement. In 2024-25, McKillop's third season as a head coach, he guided the Wildcats to a 17-16 overall record. Davidson has now posted a winning record in 22 out of the last 24 seasons. The 2023-24 campaign was McKillop's 16th season on the Wildcat bench and second as head coach, where he has helped his alma mater to 325 victories and a 191-90 (.679) record in conference play, which includes a 104-69 mark in the A-10 the last 10 years.

Assistant Coach/Director of Student-Athlete Development
Jack Gibbs, one of the most decorated players in program history, returned to Davidson College as the Director of Student-Athlete Development the Summer of 2021. He is entering his fifth season as a member of the staff. Gibbs, a four-time all-conference performer (3 – Atlantic 10 / 1 – SoCon), finished his standout career with 2,036 points, which ranks fourth all-time behind Stephen Curry, John Gerdy and former teammate Peyton Aldridge. In addition to averaging a combined 22.7 points per game his final two seasons, Gibbs' name is scattered throughout the Davidson record book, ranking among the leaders in career scoring average, 3-pointers made, assists and steals. He helped the 'Cats to an 98-65 overall record, 53-35 conference mark and the program's first-ever at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament following their 2015 Atlantic 10 Regular Season title. Assistant Coach
After serving as the Director of Operations for three years, Joshua Heyliger was promoted to Assistant Coach in May of 2022. He is entering his sixth season as a member of the staff. Heyliger, who joined Bob McKillop's staff in August of 2019 as the Director of Operations, has helped guide the Wildcats to a 104-79 overall mark, 51-50 record in conference play and two postseason appearances (2021 NIT, 2022 NCAA Tournament). In 2021-22, Davidson finished an impressive 27-7 and captured the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title with a program-record 15 wins, while earning its second NCAA at-large selection in school history. Before coming to Davidson, Heyliger was a graduate assistant coach at Dartmouth, where he performed a myriad of tasks, including helping with player development, game preparation and scouting, breaking down video and assisting with logistical issues. Justin King
Justin King joined the Davidson athletic training staff in November 2018. He came to Davidson after spending two years at McNeese State University. At MSU, he worked with the men’s and women’s basketball programs, with direct responsibility for the men’s team and supervision of a graduate assistant over the women’s team. Prior to his time at McNeese, Justin was an intern athletic trainer at The Ohio State University. There he was responsible for the OSU women’s track and field team. He was the primary athletic trainer for the Ohio State men’s and women’s teams at the 2016 NCAA Indoor National Championships. In 2014, Justin started his collegiate career as an assistant athletic trainer at Fort Lewis College, where he worked with men’s basketball and men’s soccer. In addition to his athletic training responsibilities, he was a preceptor and an instructor in the FLC athletic training education program. Justin received a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in 2012 and a Master of Athletic Training degree from Weber State University in 2014. Along with working at the collegiate level, Justin is part of the athletic trainer network for United States Soccer Federation. Most recently, he has provided support as the team athletic trainer for the U23 Women’s National Team and U16 Boy’s National Team, traveling to team camps and international tournaments in Norway and Czech Republic. Assistant Coach
Davidson graduate, longtime Wildcats assistant coach and former Elon University head coach Matt Matheny returned to his alma mater in May of 2022. He rejoined the Davidson basketball coaching staff, on which he served from 1993-2009. He is entering his 20th season as a member of the program. During his tenure at Elon (2009-19), Matheny guided the Phoenix to 151 wins, a SoCon North Division Regular Season Crown, and the first-ever postseason berth and 20-win season as a Division I program. In 2013, he was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year and a Hugh Durham Award finalist after leading Elon to a 21-14 mark. Under Matheny's guidance, the Phoenix garnered two Scholar-Athletes of the Year, a Freshman of the Year, almost 20 all-conference recognitions, 24 all-academic selections and four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Prior to taking over at Elon, the former Wildcat football and basketball team captain was an assistant coach on McKillop's Davidson staff for 16 years.

Susan Mercer
A familiar face, Susan Mercer returned to the men’s basketball program in 2005. She spent 11 years as the staff assistant from 1989-2000, and it is as if she never left her post. Among her duties are managing various athlete and alumni databases, organizing files and invoices, answering the phones and making hotel and meal arrangements for the team and coaches. “Susan ties it all together,” said former head coach Bob McKillop. “Her bright smile and friendly voice signals a warm welcome to all who come into contact with the Davidson basketball program.” Mercer joined the Davidson athletics department as basketball staff assistant in 1989. She previously worked for Reeves Brothers in Cornelius, and for two years as a sales representative for First Union National Bank in Davidson. In between her stints on staff, she worked from home for an adoption agency. Mercer placed 25 Romanian children in North Carolina homes. Mercer graduated in 1982 from North Mecklenburg High. She resides in Mooresville and has four children — Buddy, Caitlin, Christopher and Lydia.

Associate Head Coach
Will Reigel '12 is entering his 13th season on staff for the Davidson men's basketball program, and his first as associate head coach after being promoted in September 2024. After serving as the assistant for program development, Reigel was promoted to assistant coach during the summer of 2014. In addition to helping the Wildcats' to their first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament title in 2018, Davidson has posted an 210-137 overall record, 110-81 conference mark and six postseason appearances (2015, 2018 & 2022 NCAA, 2016, 2019 & 2021 NIT) since Reigel joined the bench in 2014. At the conclusion of the 2015-16 campaign, Reigel was one of 30 assistant coaches across the country named to the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Under Armour 30-under-30 Team. A two-time captain and member of the Wildcats from 2008-12, Reigel served as Davidson's assistant for program development during the 2013-14 season.
