Joshua Schumacher

Biography

Joshua Schumacher enters his 9th overall season as a head coach in 2026 and his 1st season at Concordia St. Paul. He most recently served as associate head coach and special teams coordinator at Saginaw Valley State University. Prior to that, Schumacher had an impressive eight-year run as head coach at Concordia University Ann Arbor, leading the Cardinals to a 59-25 record, including a pair of MSFA Mideast League championships and five NAIA playoff appearances. He built CUAA into a power, with the Cardinals ranked as high as sixth in the country during three different seasons and back-to-back league titles in 2020 and 2021 when he was named AFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He was named MSFA Mid-East Coach of the Year twice (2017, 2020) and served as second Vice President of the NAIA Football Coaches Association. During his eight seasons at CUAA, Schumacher recruited and developed 14 NAIA All-Americans, six Academic All-Americans, and four MSFA Mideast Players of the Year. His coaching career began at the prep ranks as defensive coordinator at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas from 2008-12. Schumacher was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for Concordia Chicago, compiling 142 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a blocked kick in 35 games. He holds a BA in physical education and mathematics from Concordia University Chicago (2007) and an MA in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine (2012).
