Assistant Coach
A CSUN alum and former All-American, Dan Lange completed his second season as an assistant coach to the Matadors in 2024-25. Lange has coached Trey Knight to three All-American awards including a pair of national runner-up finishes in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships from 2024-25. Knight would also earn First-Team All-American honors in the hammer throw at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In his two seasons, Lange has coached Knight to a pair of Big West hammer throw titles and MPSF weight throw titles while the CSUN standout was named 2025 NCAA West Region Field Athlete of the Year. Knight would qualify for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, finishing ninth in the hammer throw as well. On the women's side at CSUN, Lange menored Summer Mosley to standout 2025 season where she won the hammer throw and the discus titles at the Big West Outdoor Championships. Mosley would qualify would set a PR in the hammer throw, posting the second-best mark in school history before qualifying in two events at the NCAA West First Round. Lange joined the Matadors are spending 32 seasons with USC, coaching throwers to All-American honors over 70 times. He has mentored USC throwers to 13 school records and 29 individual Pac-12 titles. Over his career, Lange coached nearly all of the top-10 male and female hammer throwers in USC history as well as nearly every record holder in the men's and women's hammer, discus, javelin and shot put. Assistant Coach
Jacob Yowell enters his seventh season as an assistant coach on the CSUN men's and women's track & field staff in 2025-26. He serves as the program's sprints, hurdles and relays coach. In his time with Northridge, Yowell has coached Matador sprinters to three All-American awards on the men's side. CSUN has won nine individual conference titles on the men's team and four on the women's team. In all, CSUN has posted 11 total school records in sprint events between the men's and women's teams. In 2025, Yowell coached newcomer Tibyasa Matovu to breaking both the indoor and outdoor 400m school records. Matovu would win CSUN's third consecutive MPSF 400m title on the year. In addition, CSUN broke the school records in the 4x400m relay during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Yowell helped CSUN post a banner 2024 year where CSUN was represented in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. James Crawford (100m) and Chase Mars (200m) each finished in the top-20 at nationals while the 4x100m relay team (Tosh Black, David Phillips, Jr., Crawford and Mars) earned All-America Second Team honors, finishing 11th at the event. Both Phillips and Mars qualified at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials with each advancing to the 200m semifinals, finishing 14th and 17th, respectively. Assistant Coach
Jason Zarb-Cousin enters his second season with CSUN in 2025-26, serving as an assistant coach to the track & field teams as distance coach and guiding the CSUN cross country programs. Zarb-Cousin's first season at CSUN included a pair of all-time top-10 track performances as Savannah Ganter registered the second-best time in school history in the 3000m-steeplechase (10:58.90) while Ami Jacobson recorded the fifth-best time in the indoor 5000m (17:52.31). Sakura Divecchio also reset the CSUN record book in the 4k during the cross country season (14:19.4) and Jacobson cracked the 6k top-10 list by reaching seventh place (21:47.0). Zarb-Cousin joined CSUN after spending the 2023 season at UC Santa Barbara. He worked closely with the Gauchos' distance runners last season, producing a top-29 West Region finisher. Also in his one season at UCSB, Zarb-Cousin helped the Gaucho men to a second-place finish at the Big West Cross Country Championship while Ethan Godsey finished third individually. Zarb-Cousin spent the previous seven years (2016-23) at Loyola Marymount, serving as head coach of the Lions' men's cross country and track & field programs from 2021-23. He would lead the LMU cross country team to one of its best seasons ever, helping his runners make a seven-second improvement on the team's best 8,000-meter time and a 66-second improvement in the 10,000 meters. Joy McArthur enters her third season as an assistant coach and director of operations to the CSUN Track & Field teams in 2025-26. McArthur joined the Matadors after a standout career competing with USC from 2018-22. She left holding the fifth-best hammer throw mark in school history. McArthur earned second-team All-America honors during the 2022 outdoor season, recording a hammer throw toss of 214-8 (65.45m) at the NCAA's, good enough for 16th place. Earlier in the 2022 season, McArthur set a personal record in the hammer throw with a toss of 218-6 (66.61m), which entered the Trojan's all-time top-five best marks. She would finish fifth in the hammer throw at the Pac-12 Championships and 12th at the West Preliminary Rounds. In 2021, McArthur won the hammer throw at the Beach invitational with a then personal record of 214-8 (65.43m). She eventually finished sixth in the hammer throw at the Pac-12 Championships, eighth at the West Preliminary and 20th at the NCAA Championships. The shortened 2020 indoor season saw McArthur win the weight throw with a PR mark of 61-11.75 (18.89m), which moved her into second on USC's all-time list. In 2019, McArthur placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships and eventually placed 21st at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Earlier in the season, she won the hammer throw at the Trojan Invitational with a mark of 201-2 (61.33m). Assistant Coach
Tracy Spencer is in his second season as assistant coach to the CSUN Track & Field teams in 2023-24. Spencer coaches the Matadors in the sprints and hurdles. Spencer joined the Matadors are spending a season at Cal Lutheran from 2021-22 where he coached sprints, relays and hurdles. He would also spent 2021 with Defiance College (D-III) in Ohio. From 2019-21, he served as assistant track & field coach and cross country coach at Ohio Wesleyan University (D-III). While at OWU, Spencer coached an All-American and multiple NCAC champions in both the men's and women's long jump, triple jump, hurdles, 100 meters, 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. He also coached several athletes to new school records. Prior to OWU, Spencer has a six year run as head track & field coach at Thousand Oaks High School from 2013-19. Spencer put together five-time league champions in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump as well as three-time Marmonte League Team Championships. Before Thousand Oaks High School, Spencer served as head coach at Agoura Hills High School for four seasons, where he won the CIF State Discus event. He also won the league and CIF Division 4 title at Saint Bonaventure. Spencer was also an assistant track & field coach at California Lutheran University and Occidental College, where he coached Conference Champions in the long and high jump.
